QRC: CONFIGURING AND RECORDING A UPK TOPIC

AUDIENCE: UPK Developers


PURPOSE: To provide a checklist with the process steps to configure UPK for recording, as well as the process steps
to record a Topic in UPK to create a Course or Job Aid.
Check each item off after completing that activity step.

COMPLETE ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION


1. Configure UPK for recording: From the Main menu, navigate to Tools > Options.

2. The Options window displays. In the Category box, navigate to Content Defaults > Topic.
• In the Default Mode Settings matrix, deselect all check boxes in the Know It? column.
• In the Know It? Options box, change the Required percentage to 0%.
• In the Remediation options box, deselect all check boxes.
• Click the Apply button.

3. In the Category box, navigate to Content Defaults > Record.


• In the Recorder box, deselect the Automatically record keyboard shortcuts check box.
• Click the Apply button.

4. In the Category box, navigate to Content Defaults > Bubble.


• In the Bubble box, click the Background color button.
• The Color window displays. Click the More Colors… link. The Color window displays. Enter
the following
o Red = 252
o Green = 251
o Blue = 250
• Click the OK button. Click the Apply button.

5. In the Bubble box, click the Font button.


• The Font window displays. Select the following font:
o Font = Arial
o Font style = Regular
o Size = 11
• Click the OK button. Click the Apply button.

6. In the Category box, navigate to Content Defaults > Introduction/End Frame.


• In the Introduction/End Frame box, click the Background color button.
• The Color window displays. Click the More Colors… link. The Color window displays. Enter
the following
o Red = 252
o Green = 251
o Blue = 250
• Click the OK button. Click the Apply button.

7. In the Introduction/End Frame box, click the Font button.


• The Font window displays. Select the following font:
o Font = Arial
o Font style = Regular
o Size = 11
• Click the OK button. Click the Apply button.

8. In the Category box, navigate to Content Defaults > String Input.


• In the String Input box, select the Automatically record screenshots radio button.
• The Font window displays. Select the following font:
o Font = Arial
o Font style = Regular
o Size = 11
• Click the OK button. Click the Apply button.

9. In the Category box, click the Recorder tree item.


• In the Screenshot Capture Key box, click drop-down list and select the Print Screen list
item.

• In the Sound Recording box, deselect the Record sound with topic check box.

• Click the Apply button. Click the OK button.

10. Ensure your desktop is prepared for recording the UPK Topic:

• Ensure that your screen resolution is set to 1024 x 768.

• Ensure that your screen DPI is set at 96 (or Smaller). On the Screen Resolution page, click

. Next click the Smaller – 100% radio button,


then click the Apply button. You will be required to log off and then log back on to your
PC.

• Close email, instant messenger applications, and Skype. Any application that may have a
pop-up notification must be closed before beginning to record a UPK topic.
• Auto-hide your taskbar: Right-click on the taskbar and click Properties from the pop-up
menu. The Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window displays. Click the Auto-hide the
Taskbar checkbox. Click the OK button.

• Ensure that your Target (web browser) screen is in full screen mode by pressing the F11
key.

11. Ensure that when you record you use an approved browser:

• Microsoft Internet Explorer version 11 or later.


• Mozilla Firefox for Windows version 24 (ESR) and 31 (ESR).
• IMPORTANT! Do Not Use Google Chrome or any other unapproved browser.

12. Click on the Target (web browser) screen. Next click the Printscreen button to activate the
recording feature in UPK.

13. Perform the steps of the activity to be recorded.

14. Press the Printscreen button when finished to deactivate the recording feature in UPK.

• The topic is now ready for editing.
