Congratulate yourself that you are
aware it is Preyas, now follow below steps

can be anything better health, improving a skill, getting rid of any unwanted habit etc.,)
With this preyas, I know I am wasting
my time and in future I will come to this same point and regret. Do you think still I should go with doing this?
Now see what will be the shreyas
activity, normally it is opposite of Preyas) Now you identified the Shreyas activity, break it to manageable steps. Don't think that you will do it all together at once. Please remember the Samkars are rooted, thinking that you will complete it in one shot may not be feasible, the direction towards Shreyas is important, not the speed, remember once you take the direction there should be no looking back ward, but you may go slowly in the begining, that is fine. Here Swamiji, also gives us analogy to take the first step.

This step is very careful, be really
mindful, after you did that step a sense of EGO comes up and you may feel you are great, sometimes may fall pity please curb that and remember only your direction is right, you are yet to take 99 steps ( thinking 100 steps is what are needed) . repeat this process and slowly this whole Preyas gets converted to Shreyas activity. Self Appreciation, talk to yourself calmly thing about
the Net effect. Shreyas and preyas are mutually exclusive.
There is nothing wrong in doing a Preyas activity, in
the initial stage. Do not compare yourself with others, your journey is your and their journey is their's. Just become aware that you are doing it and contemplate on the shreyas activity when you are doing Preyas. After all this, even if you fail, start from the first step. Don't worry about the failures
