GUIDELINES ON SAFE START OF SPINDLES AFTER A PROLONGED SHUTDOWN

Before starting the spindle:

1) Clean the spindle externally on all visible areas.
2) Start lubrication. Let the lubrication be ON for 30 minutes before the spindle is started. This will
ensure that the tubes and bearings are well lubricated.
3) Check air pressure in the lubrication lines. It should be in the region on 0.8 to 1.2 bar.
4) Check return flow from the spindle to the chiller.
5) Check if the cooling is effective.
6) Clean the quill interface with clean cloth and apply a thin film of oil.

Check interlocks:
1) Trigger lubrication alarm, and see if the interlock is working
2) Trigger chiller alarm and see if the interlock is working
3) Trigger flow switch alarm and see if the interlock in working.

Starting the spindle:

1) Start the spindle in MDI mode
2) Start at 25% speed. Run the spindle for 10 minutes. Observe if the shaft is getting heated. In any
case, the temperature should not cross 45 degrees.
3) Stop the spindle for 10 minutes.
4) Start the spindle at 50% rated speed. Check for heating, or vibration. Check the effectiveness of
cooling.
5) Stop the spindle for 10 minutes.
6) Start the spindle at 75% rated speed. Check for heating, or vibration. Check the effectiveness of
cooling.
7) Stop the spindle for 10 minutes.

If no errors or negative observations are made, the spindle can be put to production.
