Methodology

A sample of 167 responses from students of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM),

Perak Branch, Tapah is included from this study. The students consist from different
faculty background such as Faculty of Applied Science, Faculty of Computer Science
and Mathematical and Faculty of Accountancy has been selected around 3 weeks using
convenience non probability sampling technique. Convenience sampling is a type of
sampling technique that relies on data collection from population members who are
conveniently available to participate in study. It does not give all the individual in the
population equal chances to being selected.

The questionaire items were designed to cover the objective of this study by separated
into four section. The first section of the questionaire are about basic information of the
participants containing age, gender, faculty and part of study. The second section are
about political knowledge influence that discuss factors of the political influence such as
family, educational institutions, peer groups and mass media. The third section are
regarding basic political knowledge by asking simple question about current politic in
Malaysia and the last section are dealing with respondent involvement in politics. Only
the third section of the questionaire are inferential statistics which is a process of
making conclusion based on data while the rest of the questionaire are descriptive
statistics that means the data been summarised and presented into graphical and
calculation information. The respondents could attend and answer the questions at any
times and without pressure from any program and part.
 Problem Statements
Young generation are considered as the pioneer towards the future as they will leads
the society through their choices and decisions in the future. The young generation
should be provided with enough knowledge to raise their awareness about their impact
of their politcal stances. It is crucial development needed for the young generation in
order for a positve political environment and a brighter future.

Objective
The objectives of this research are as follows:

1. To study the correlation between an individual political knowledge and their

influences.
2. To identify basic political knowledge among students.
3. To recognize student involvement in politics.
