Materials needed: Books: To Fly and Who were the Wright Brothers

Wright Brothers Worksheet

Anticipatory set: To activate the student’s background knowledge I will

begin by asking them if they have ever taken a vacation

somewhere, I will ask around the class to see where they have

gone. After receiving some answers I will ask them how they

got to the location. If no student has ever been on a plane I will detail

how I went to Hawaii and ask the students how they believe I got

there. I will explain to them about how I had to take a plane to

get there

Procedure: After completing my Anticipatory set I will break the students

into 2 groups, one group will be reading Who Are The Wright Brothers? While

the other group is reading To Fly. I will be walking around as the students
take part in a choral reading to monitor book progress when the groups finish

we will switch books and repeat the process. After the students have read

the second book I will bring the class back together to complete a review

worksheet. For the review worksheet I will have the students work in groups

at their desk clusters. I will be prompting the students throughout there

small group work by using questions such as,Why was being able to fly so

significant or how has their invention affected the economy in todays world?

After the students complete the worksheet we will come together as a group

and go over some main ideas from the two books to close the lesson. I will

then transition the students into their independent reading groups.

by the worksheet I provided.
