Answer the following questions related to the topics read in Understanding Ethical
Problems in a Word Document. Avoid copying the information.

1. Explain each one of them. 1. Explain the four ethical theories considered in the unit
one by one. p.37-44

• Utilitarianism Is an ethical and philosophical theory that states that the best action is the
one that maximizes utility, which is usually defined as that which produces the greatest
well being of the greatest number of people.

• Duty Ethics and Rights Ethics These theories hold that those actions are good that
respect the rights of the individual. Here, good consequences for society as a whole are
not the only moral consideration.

• Nonmaleficence This theory is part of a process in which is responsible for making

ethical decisions in order to use the least possible damage, achieving a result according
to the situation in which you are either professionally towards the client or socially.

• Veracity it looks at the virtue or moral character of the person carrying out an action,
rather than at ethical duties and rules, or the consequences of particular actions.

2. What is the distinction between personal and corporate morality? p.45.

Personal Morality, which studies the values and patterns of individual behavior and corporate
morality, is difficult to attribute moral responsibility because it is a corporation and its principals
are the same for everyone.

3. Explain if there is a specific rule to apply when facing a problem. p.45-46

The only rule or law is that we can choose any ethical theory to analyze the problem from
different angles and see what result each of these theories gives us.

4. Explain in your own words the four non-western ethical thinking theories, one by
one. p.46-53.

The theories of ethical thinking are the same for everyone, although ethical principles in other
cultures such as non-Western thinking can be derived in different ways, the results are generally
the same, regardless of the culture.
