Introduction

We all use social media nowadays but mostly teenagers. The reasons are:

 To stay in touch with what friends are doing.

 To stay up-to-date with news and current events.
 To fill up stare time.
 To find funny and entertaining content.
 To share opinions.
 To share photos or videos with others.
 Because friends are already on them.
 To meet new people.
 To share details of our everyday life.

But social media like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Whatsapp, etc have disadvantages if we
don't use them well.

Online grooming: “grooming” is a way to describe how people who want sexually harm
children and teens get close to them. It may also occurs online by people forming relationship
them and pretending to be their friend. For example, if a teenager is lonely, a potential abuser
will give the teenager attention and develop a “special relationship”, which then might make it
easier to manipulate them. Online grooming is faster and anonymous and can result in
teenager trusting and “online friend” more quickly than someone they had just met face to
face. Abuser’s intent on sexually harming young people can easily access information about
them online and they are able to hide their true identity, age and gender. People who groom
children or teenager may not be restricted by time or accessibility to a child as they would be
in the “real world”.

Sexting: sending sexually explicit messages, photos or video via cell phone, computer or any
digital device. Includes photos or videos containing nudity or show or simulated sex acts. It
also includes text messages that discuss or propose sex acts. Sexting is often done as a joke, a
way of getting attention, or as flirting. Why is it a problem? A photo shared between two
people can quickly become a viral phenomenon. Teens may believe it will be kept private and
then discover it has been shared widely with their peers, sometimes with graves
consequences. Sexting could result in charges of distributing or possessing child pornography.

Those things that you should never ever share on social media.

 Social media usage can actually damage your reputation. Inappropriate photos display
a bad image. Think twice about posting those photos on your profile.
 Your words can come back and haunt you. Anything you say in the real world can
quickly be posted on social media. It can make things go viral. If you make one hiccup
and say the wrong thing, it can spread across social media like the plague.
 The exact details of your vacation on current location. Nothing says, “Hey, rob my
house", like a proud post about an upcoming vacation. Criminals see that and their
eyes turn into dollar signs.
 Pictures of your credit cards, licence or personal documentation.
 Complaints about your boss or teachers.
 Spread rumours about someone that aren't true.
 Expensive new purchases. When you tell the world you have a shiny new toy, like a
new phone, a tablet, laptop, car, etc, some people may want to steal it from you or
take advantage of you in some way.
