21. GENERATOR LOAD TESTS: CAPABILTIY AT 0 % POWER FACTOR
AND MAX +MVAR
a) DESCRIPTION
Test maximum export +65 MVar capability of generator at 0 MW as per contract
requirement
b) PRE-CONDITIONS REQUIRED
i) Load rejections and 100% heat run complete
ii) Permission from COES to export + 65 MVar for short time with 0 MW
iii) Exciter (AVR) full commissioned
(1) In auto
(2) -MVAR limitiation tested in actual condition
(3) lex limitiation set and tested in actual condition, if it is possible (PN QN UN)
(4) AVR stability checked on load
c) KEY SAFETY CONCERNS
i) Same as for fully operational unit
ii) Stator voltage must not go over 105% of 13.8kV. This might be challenging as
Cheves is at the end of the transmission Line. Transformer Taps may have to be
changed

9. | GENERATOR CAPABILTY AT COS PHI0
This test can be done during the on load test, since it doesn’t request any particular
instrumentation
9.1, Requested conditions for test
Machine ready for rotation.
Loss of field protection and return power protection checked in actual condition
AVR -MVAR limitation tested in actual condition
AVR lex limitation set and tested in actual condition, if it is possible (PN QN UN).
AYR stability checked on load.
HT line connected to the network
Stator voltage must not go over 105% of 13800V: all depends on the load at the end of the HT
line and the transformer ratio, Load and voltage at the end of the HT line must be steady during all
the test.
9.2. Test procedure
Generator is set at about OMW, + 65 MVAR, 13800V
If the generator full load test can be done, this testis finished, generator capability is OK
93. Test Result
P (Mw) Q(MVAR) UV) 1A)
94, Test time delay
30 mn, depending on the network representative advices.a

The If limitation was set originally on 845A on Hymateck excitation,
‘Test over this limit were done, changing the If limitation.
Network and generator transformer gave a voltage over the generator contractual voltage, when If
and the MVAR are increasing.
As we got 40 MVAR with 81MW, for a 103.5 % voltage, as the AVR Q regulation is limited at +/-
20 MVAR, it was decided, with Nordconsult, to let the limitation on 845A, generator being able to
go further.
For the test in negative reactive power (-MVAR), sec excitation ~Q limitation report
