Displaying Student Work

I make sure to create rotating displays of

students’ work, so that they can take a sense
of pride in what they’ve accomplished, share
their work with their community, and see that
their work is valuable.
Celebrating Diversity

My classroom walls include flags

from students’ home countries,
words in many languages, and
other signifiers of our diversity. I
want students to feel proud of their
identities in our classroom.
Behavioral Expectations

I set clear, consistent behavioral

expectations in my classroom.
Students are expected to treat one
another with respect and to act in
a responsible, safe manner in the
classroom.
Calm Down Corner

I create space in my room for

students to take a break, as
needed. Students can write/draw
about their feelings and/or use
provided tools to engage in
mindful calming activities.
Student Centered Vocabulary Cards

In order to make vocabulary more fun

and personal, I have students act out
vocabulary words.
Then, I use student photos to create
vocabulary cards to display in our
classroom. This helps to establish a
sense of ownership of the new words
we’ve learned and an excitement to
learn more words.
