No.: 2006-12-WP-07 Arr TRADING SDN BHD Date: 28-MAY-2006 POST WELD HEAT TREATMENT PROCEDURE |“! =O 1.0 ‘SCOPE OF WORK 1.1) This document describes the procedure for Local Post Weld Heat Treatment of Piping Welded joints. 1.2) All items describe in this procedure shall be strictly observed in order to attain a good quality of P.W.HI. 1.3) This procedure describe the minimum requirement of P.W.HI. on pipe joint in accordance with the respective code and standard 2.0 APPLICATION CODE AND SPECIFICATION 2.1) ASME / ANSI 831.3 Chemical Plant & Petroleum Refinery Piping 3.0 METHOD OF PWHT 3.1) The operation of P.W.HJ. shall be performed in accordance to the requirement given in the application code and specification section. 3.2) The P.W.HI. shall be conducted in locally by means of electrical resistance heater. 4.0 LOCAL PWHT (BY RESISTANCE METHOD) 4.1) Weld joint shall be locally heat-treated in such manner that, the entire band be brought up uniformly to the Required temperature, and held for the specified period of the time by electrical resistance method 4.2] Minimum Requirement Heated Band Width : 4.2.1) In Local P.W.HT. of Butt Weld Joint, the minimum width of the heated band, centered on the weld, shall extend 2.5 X Square Root of RT beyond the edge of the weld, 4.2.2) In Local P.W.H.I. of Weld Branch Connection, the minimum width of the heated band shall extend at least 2.5X Square Root of RT beyond the edge of the weld joining the branch or attachment fo the run pipe. 4.23) in Local P.WHI. of the Bent or Formed Sections, the minimum. width of the heated band shall extend to 2.5 X Square Root of RT on each side of the bent or formed area ERT ETEMREOTCTOCTORP TP MUSHTAR NGIN RIN 2006-12-WP-07 Ar TRADING SDN BHD 28-May-2006 POST WELD HEAT TREATMENT PROCEDURE ° 04 of 8 = Wall thickness R = Pipe Radius Square Root MINIMUM HEATED BAND 43) Thermal Insulation 43.1) The Insulation width shall be at least twice the heating width. See fig. 4-3 below FIG, 4-3, MINIMUM INSULATION WIDTH 43.2) Ceramic fiber insulation blanket shall be provided for the area to be treated. 433) The insulation blanket will be kept in place with iron wire or steel wire. 43.4) Where possible , the ends of piping should be sealed to prevent intemal air currents from creating excessively high thermal gradients through the thickness of the piping . 43.5) After heat treatment all materials shall be cooled in sill air , protected from rain and draughts 5.0 6.0 4A) MUSHTARI ENGINEERING & 2006-12-WP-07 TRADING SDN BHD + 26-MAY-2006 POST WELD HEAT TREATMENT PROCEDURE vo 05 of 08 Thermocouple Location 44.1} Thermocouple shall be fimly attached to the center of the weld zone using a capacitance ~ discharge type of thermocouple welder. A demonstration will be carried out upon CLENT's request When tack welding thermocouple on to the work piece , precautions shall be taken so as not to create defects such as undercuts, efc,and the welded zone shall be smoothly finished by grinder after heat treatment. The minimum number of thermocouples to be attached to a work piece shall be as follows : Pipe Dia ies) No. of T/C. Location 2" & below T Top of Piping 3" to 12" 2 Top & Boltom ‘Above 12” 3 Top Middle & Bolfom TEMPERATURE MONITORING 5.1) Temperature monitoring shall be done by thermocouples and temperatures shall be continuously recorded on the temperature record chart. TEMPERATURE CONDITIONS. 41) 6.2) 63) 6.4) 6.5) Heating from ambient temperature to 300 Deg. C is unrestricted. The rate of the heating at the temperature above 300 Deg. C shall not exceed 220 Deg. C / Hr. for pipe wall thickness up to and including 25mm/T maximum. For maximum pipe wall thickness more one 25mm/T, the heating rate shall be 55881 (Where T = pipe wall thickness in mm ). Minimum required Soak Temperature & Time are at stated in attachment ‘appendix | Require for Heat Treatment. The rate of Cooling from the Soak temperature to a temperature above 300 Deg. C. shall not exceed 245 Deg. C/ Hr. For pipe wall thickness up to and including 25mm/T in maximum. For maximum pipe wall thickness over than 25mm/T, the Cooling shall be 62501 (Where T = pipe wall thickness in mm ) Cooling from 300 Deg. The instrument shall be calibrated every 12 months by a thitd party. Calibration Certificate shall be submitted to CLIENT before commencing work. 8.2) Program Controller 8.2.1) It consists of CHINO Program Setter and Temperature Controller. 8.2.2) It consists of GLOBE Programmer Setter and Temperature Controller. It shall be the consumable type 0.8mm, glass fiber varnish- finished. Thermocouple shall be attached directly to the metal surface using a theimocouple welder. This consumable type of thermocouple gives the greatest accuracy and weld penetration will be only0.2 mm to 0.3mm Thermocouple Welder 8.4.1) When the consumable type of thermocouple is to be used for monitoring temperature, it shall be attached to the metal surface by capacitance discharged from this instrument. Thermocouple Compensating Lead 85.1) It shall be Copper / Constantan when use in conjunction with type “k" thermocouple. Heater 8.6.1) Ceramic Pad Heater (Electrical resistance Heater). Power Unit 8.7.1) SCR Power Regulator Or 50 KVA Power Transformer. 9.0 PERSONNEL'S QUALIFICATION Qualified personnel will be utilized in performing P.W.H.T. The supervisor and technician are weil trained and have experiences. ‘One (1) qualified chorgemen shall be assigned to monitor the equipment. 10.0 REPORTING AND DOCUMENTATION The complete temperature cycle of heating, soaking and cooling shall be recorded on a chart. Temperature recorder shall be calibrated Temperature chart shall be fully identified and with respect to weld joint no, liné, drawing and thermocouple heat treaiment arrangement. Any discrepancy shall be reported After the Post-Weld heat treatment is completed , the temperature chart will be presented to the Client Representative site Engineer or Inspector for approval.
