ABOUT MY PRACTICES

By: María José Hernández.

The opinion I have about my first co-teaching practice is that they were more than
enriching experiences for my development as a teacher. It is indisputable that I have a long
way to go and that one way or another we can be better every day. is also to recognize that
many times we will not act correctly, but still, mistakes must be recognized to go beyond
the academic.

It is already important to be clear about the effective management of a class and how we
can help students throughout their life, even though we are only teaching a subject. It also
makes it very clear to me that we are more than guides for students, we are role models and
therefore we must act as such. We are also responsible for how the classes will be for as
long as we are teaching and that first impressions matter more than one thinks.

Maybe not the most expected way, but being in front of more than 20 people who put their
trust in you, makes you feel nervous at some point, and that’s where you’ll realize it’s your
time to shine, where you’ll finally see how good you are for what you’ve spent so much of
your time studying and perfecting, perhaps.

A lot of times you might think that with what you’re going to say, or the way you are going
to say it, you might be inspiring a lot of people, it’s hard to believe because at school,
you’re almost forced to go, but not, many times and in many cases, the way you present the
subject can decide and influence the decisions of the students and it is there that everything
goes through your head and you can think that it is time to act and somehow change the
present or the mind of some person.

Last but not least, reciprocal respect is the key in teaching, you can have confidence with
your students, you can talk outside of classes with them and even feel a lot of affinity with
many of them, but at the time of your being in front of the class, everything must change, at
that moment you have the authority and the relationship moves closely to the academic.
This point is important because everything depends on it, as well as the first impression,
which is why I think I still have a lot to learn and improve so that I can become more than a
traditional teacher.
