Notebook 11-7c

Group writing can be a great way of incorporating a bunch of different people’s

ideas to create something. There are a lot of benefits from working with a group, but

there are also some negatives from group projects. When you are working with a lot of

different people, you can create something that may not have been thought of

otherwise. You can get people’s input on your writing. Through peer reviews, you can

receive constructive feedback on what they like or dislike. You can receive suggestions

on what you can do to improve your writing and make it the best possible piece.

Different people can provide different outlooks and perspectives on a specific topic. You

may think you know what approach you want to take towards your topic, but different

people could identify another approach that you otherwise wouldn’t have ever thought

of. Others can give you different insights on your topic, that you can use in your writing.

Using different peoples information can also provide you with more credibility as a

writer. If you acknowledge other sides to your issue, it also helps add credibility to your

piece, and yourself as a writer.

While there are a lot of advantages to working with a group, there are still some

harms from it. Your original approach may be clouded by other people’s opinions, and

you may end up with a completely different piece than what you wanted. You may also

receive so many different insights that you don’t have a clear picture of what you want

your writing to be about. You could also get a lot of negative input on your ideas, that

you choose not to use them, with the fear of peer pressure.
