■ な-adjectives ; like : すき dislike : きらい
すき and きらい mean respectively “favorite, to like” and “not favorite, to dislike” and these conjuga-
te like the な adjective.
The particle が is used to indicate the direct object.
すき きらい
すきです きらいです
すきでは/じゃありません きらいでは/じゃありません
すきでした きらいでした
すきでは/じゃありませんでした きらいでは/じゃありませんでした
-Note-
When it refers to oneself, the な-adjective とくい is used instead of じょうず.
Group1 (1だん)
In their dictionary form, Group 1 verbs end in る(ru). The stem form is needed to conjugate the verbs and verb suffixes de-
pending on the tense. The stem form is made by removing the final る(ru).

Group5 (5だん)
In their dictionary form, Group 5 verbs end in the vowel “u”, like the sounds う, つ, る, く, ぐ, す, む, ぶ, ぬ.
These ending “u” sounds are dropped and replaced with “i” to form the Group 5 stem form.

These conjugate like other verbs by adding a verb suffix to the stem.

There are only two main kinds of irregular verb, but other verbs that end in suru and kuru conjugate
in the same way as the above-mentioned verbs.

2) The particle を also indicates the location of some movements or the location the subject is leaving
for the following verbs:
でる (to leave, go out) とおる (to pass) あるく (to walk) とぶ (to fly)
そつぎょうする (to graduate) おりる (to get off) のぼる (to climb, go up)
• おとうさんは まいあさ こうえんを さんぽします。 My father takes a walk in the park every morning.
• きのう このみちを とおりました。 I passed by this road yesterday.
• いつも あのえきで でんしゃを おります。 I always get off the train at that station.
• かれは きょねん だいがくを そつぎょうしました。 He graduated from college last year.
