Chapter 1: The Ship My name is Dr Lemuel Gulliver, I live in London with wife, Mary, and our two children, Many of my nts are poor and can’t pay me, so I don’t have a lot of money, One day, a friend comes to my house. Suddenly, I see an island. “Am I imagining this?” I think. I look again. Yes, the island is there. | swim to the island. I fall on the ground and sleep. 3 Chapter 2; The Small Men Something is walking on my leg. | open my eyes and try to move my head. I can’t move. Ropes tie me to the ground. I see a very small man next to my face. He’s about six inches tall, The small man has a bow and arrow in his hand. I shout and he’s scared. ‘The small man runs along my arm and jumps onto the ground. I break the ropes on my arm and hair. Then | move my head, Small arrows hit my face and body, There are hundreds of small men near me, They're shooting arrows at me. ‘Am | imagining | this? Are these smatt people reat? Why are they so angry? I'm very surprised. | put my arm over my face to protect my eyes. The small men are speaking in a strange language. I can't speak to them because they don't understand me. Finally, they stop shooting the arrows. One of the men climbs on me again. One of the men understands and shouts to the people on the ground and they run in different directions. Soon they return with a lot of food and drink. There is a lot of bread, meat and vegetables, I cat everything. The men watch me, surprised. There's a sleeping potion in the food and soon I go to sleep again. When I open my eyes, hundreds of men are carrying me on a big piece of wood. We stop at an ancient temple. The men tie me to the door of the temple. What are you doing? Why are you tying me to the door? Now I can’t leave. 'm a prisoner! I can’t walk far but I can get to the temple and go inside. Chapter 3; The King of Lilliput I can see a city near the temple. The trees and houses are very small. Some people are coming from the city. There’s a man on a small white horse. He’s wearing a crown, A woman and a boy are with the man. They're on small horses, too. The horses are scared of me because I'm big. The man with the crown speaks to me in a strange language. He has a quiet voice. I lie on the ground to hear him and see his face. This man is the King of the istand. The woman is the Queen and the boy is their son, the Prince. | i Wy th GULLIVER’S TRAVELS I try to speak to the King in many different languages, but he doesn’t understand me. I ask to speak to the King. He comes to the temple on his small white horse. After that, people come to see me every day. They climb onto my hand and I talk to them quietly. Boys and girls climb on me and play in my hair. Soon, everyone on the island likes me. ‘Three weeks pass and the guard removes the ropes on my legs. I can now walk around the island. 1 visit the city of Mildendo and the King’s palace. The people are happy to see me, but they're scared of my big feet, They run into their houses and watch from the windows, The King’s palace is in the middle of the city. He's scared. “Soldiers from Blefuscu want to attack us,” he says. “Their warships are getting ready to travel to Lilliput. We need your help. They're very strong.” “Where is Blefuscu?” I ask. “Blefuscu is north of Lilliput,” the King answers. I take my binoculars and walk to the north of the island. I lie near the beach and look across the sea. I can see the island of Blefuscu and the warships. There are 50 ships and there are hundreds of soldiers on the ships. It's terrible! “L have a good idea. Please bring me some strong ropes and some metal hooks,” I say to my servants. GULLIVER HELPS THE KING The servants bring the ropes and I cut them into 50 pieces and tic them to 50 hooks. Then I take the ropes and hooks and walk into the sea. | swim until my feet are on the ground again and I'm near the island of Blefuscu. When the soldiers from Blefuscu see me, they're very seared, They jump out of the warships and into the sea, Then they swim to the beach, There are hundreds of people on the beach, They're all looking at me, surprised. “Who is that man?” they say. “He’s so big.” The soldiers shoot arrows at me. I attach the hooks to the ships and take all the ropes in my hand. Then I pull the ships in the water to Lilliput. GULLIVER'S TRAVELS The King is very happy. After two weeks, two ambassadors from Blefuscu come to Lilliput. Our peopte are tired of war. We want to make peace. | We're tired of war, too. Let's make peace. When the ambassadors leave, the King speaks to me alone. “L have an idea,” he says. “You can capture men and women from Blefuscu and bring them to Lilliput. They can be my servants.” “No!” I say, “It’s a terrible thing to do!” “I'm the King! Obey me!” says the King. “I'm sorry, I don’t want to do it!” | answer, The King is very angry. He doesn’t come to see me for a long time, Then, one day, I see smoke in the city, There’s a fire in the King’s palace, People are running in the streets with buckets of water. 4 GULLIVER HELPS THE KING “We can’t put out the fire!” says a man. “Can you help, Man Mountain?” The fire is in the Queen’s room. The Queen is standing near the window, “Help! Fire!” she shouts, I talk to the Queen through her window. “I can help you,” I say. I remove my shoe and put water in it. Then I pour the water into the Queen's room and put out the fire. The Queen is very wet and very angry. , / Bese £3 Aagh! Look at my hair! Look at my beautiful dress! 5 a VER'S TRAVELS Chapter 5: Gulliver's Escape Three days pass and then two guards come to get me. “Come with us, Man Mountain,” they say. “Why?” Task. “The King is waiting to punish you,” one guard says. “Why? ZN ol y I walk past the guards and over the houses of Mildendo, Soon, I'm at the north side of the island and in the sea. I'm going to Blefuscu! The people of Blefuscu see me coming. The King of Blefuscu is waiting for me on the beach. 16 GULLIVER'S The people of Blefuscu are nice to me, but I don’t have a house because there are no big houses in Blefuscu. I sit and think about my comfortable home in England and my wife and two children. I want to go home! After three days, I see something in the sea, I remove my shoes and walk into the sea to see what it is, It's a small boat, I climb into the boat and it starts to move. “Goodbye Lilliput and Blefuscu,” I say. “I'm free!” GULLIVER’S TRAVELS Chapter 6: A New Land I want to go north, but a strong wind moves the boat to the east for five days. On the sixth day, I see land. My boat moves in that direction. Soon the boat stops moving. I get out of the boat and walk to the land, The trees are very tall. I can’t see the top of the trees, Then I walk through a field of very tall grass. Suddenly, I hear a loud noise and I see an enormous farmer, I’m scared and I hide in the grass. ‘When I move, the farmer sees me. He takes me in his hands and puts me next to his face. He has an ugly foce! The farmer puts me in his & pocket and takes me to his \ house, A NEW LAND The farmer puts me on a very high table in the kitchen, Then he speaks to his family in a strange language. The farmer's children look at me. The farmer's wife is fascinated. I smile and say hello. I'm Gulliver. It’s nice to meet you. The farmer's wife smiles and brings me some meat on a big plate. I stand on the plate and start to eat. The children laugh loudly and I put my hands over my ears. The farmer brings his baby to the table. The baby takes me in his hand and puts me in his mouth. | shout loudly and the baby is scared. I fall from his hands into a bowl of milk. 1 swim around and around in the milk. The farmer laughs, takes my leg and pulls me out of the bowl. ee ee 2 = ae I'm very tired and I want to be alone. The farmer's daughter, Gimbella, is nine years old. She’s very nice, She puts me in a doll’s bed and puts a blanket over me, The bed is high and I can’t get out of it. Soon, I go to sleep. The next morning, the farmer's son comes into the room. He has a boat in his hand. It's my boat! Suddenly, the boat falls to the floor and it breaks into many pieces. Now I can't go home! I'm very sad. 20 LIFE WITH THE GIANTS Chapter 7: Life with the Giants Gimbella makes new clothes for me and she starts to teach me her language. She's a good teacher and soon 1 can talk to her. | learn that I'm in a country called Benbingal. One day, a neighbor comes to see me, I dance for him and he laughs. Suddenly, he stops laughing. “I have an idea!” he says to the farmer. “You can make a lot of money with this small man! The farmer gets a lot of money, I work very hard and I'm tired, The farmer doesn't give me much food and I'm always hungry. 1 want to go home to my wife and family. 22 GULLIVER GOES TO THE CAPITAL Chapter 8: Gulliver Goes to the Capital One day, I hear the farmer and his wife talking. “People are paying a lot of money to see Gulliver,” says the farmer's wife, “Yes, but we can get more money,” says the farmer. “IL want to take Gulliver to the big city. People there have a lot of money.” “You're right,” says his wife. “Take Gulliver to the big city tomorrow.” The next morning, we go to Lombulgrud, the big city. Gimbella makes a comfortable bed for me in the box. We travel for a long time and I can't move my legs. We get to Lombulgrud three days later. I'm thin and weak and the farmer isn’t happy. Gulliver is sick. | can't’ Ne GULLIVER'S TRAVELS The King of Benbingal sends a message to the farmer. The farmer is excited. “Tomorrow you're going to the palace to sing and dance for the King and Queen, Gulliver,” he says, “Eat some food and be strong.” — The farmer gives me food and I eat it, I feel strong again. ‘The next day, we go to the palace. I sing and dance for the King and Queen. They like me. “I want to buy Gulliver,” the Queen tells the farmer. “You can buy him for 1,000 pieces of gold,” says the farmer. “OK,” says the Queen. “And your daughter can live in the palace and take care of Gulliver.” ‘The farmer was cruel to me and I don’t like him. When he leaves, I don't say goodbye. 24 LIFE IN THE PALACE Chapter 9: Life in the Palace Gimbella takes me to see the palace. The King has 600 horses. They’re very big! The King and Queen are very nice to me. Their servants make a small house for me. It has two windows and a door. There's a black table with two chairs, a cupboard and a comfortable bed. There's a small plate, cup and bow! in the cupboard, The servants make clothes for me from mouse skins. I'm very comfortable in my new home, but | have a problem. The Queen's dwarf hates me! The Queen’s dwarf is very tall! He hates me because I'm the Queen's favorite. GULLIVER’S TRAVELS One day, he puts some insects in my house. He wants to scare me, They're very big. | kill four insects with my knife. The other insects fly out of my house. When the Queen hears about this, she’s very angry. “Leave the palace!” she tells the dwarf, The dwarf leaves, but there are other dangers in the palace. One day, a dog takes me in its mouth and runs to hide. Fortunately, the dog doesn’t hurt me. Gimbella is very scared and tries to find me everywhere, Finally, she finds me in the dog’s mouth. GULLIVER AT SEA Chapter 10: Gulliver at Sea One day, the Queen takes me on a vacation to a palace near the sea. Gimbella is sick and can’t come, so a servant takes me in my box, When we get to the palace, I want to see the sea, The servant puts sandwiches and water in my box and takes me to the beach. I go to sleep. The servant puts the box on the ground and walks to the sea. He wants to swim. Suddenly, my box moves and I open my eyes. I see the sky and the sun from my window, Then the box starts to fall and I'm scared. The box falls into the sea. GULLIVER'S TRAVELS This is my fourth day on the sea, Fortunately, water isn’t coming into my box, but I don’t have any food or water now. Suddenly, I hear a noise. 1 open a window and shout for help. I can hear voices. Someone is speaking English. “Someone's in the box,” a voice says. “Let's bring it here.” Suddenly, my box stops moving and I look out of the window. I'm on a ship and I can see some sailors. They're not enormous! They're small, like me. I climb out the window, I don’t understand what's happening! 28 HOME AGAIN! Chapter 11: Home Again! The sailors bring me food and water and I have a meal. Then I start to understand. The sailors are English. I'm on an English ship and, finally, can go home! The sailors ask me a lot of questions, | start to tell the sailors about my adventures, but they don’t believe me. Then I point to my mouse skin clothes, and they're very surprised. They want to hear all about my adventures, We get to England on June 3, 1706. I'm very happy to be home and to see my wife and children. But soon I want to go to sea again. I think about strange islands and lands. Maybe one day I can have another adventure. 2
