BOYLE’S LAW

The relationship between the volume

and pressure of gases at constant
temperature was first studied by
Robert boyle during the 16th century
performed an experiment wherein he
trapped a fixed amount of air and the
J-tube,he changes the pressure and
controlled the temperature and the he
observed its effect to the volume of
the air inside the J-tube he found out
that as the pressure is increased the
volume decreased.He finally
conculeded that the volume of a fixed
amount of gas is inversely
proportional to its pressure at
constant temperature V1 P1 =V2 P2-
>General formula on boyle’s law.
Charles’ law
The volume temperature relationship
Gases(K=V\T)was determine by and named after
jaques Charles.in his experiment ,jaques Charles
trapped a sample of gas in cylinder with a movable
piston in water bath at different temperature.Jaques
Charles found out that the different gases decreased
their volume by factor 1/273 per degrees of cooling
with this rate reduction,if gas will be cooled up to
273 degrees it will have zero volume Charles las
store at constant pressure.the volume of a fixed
amount of gas is directly proportional to the kelvin
(K) temperature.

Why is there a need to convert degrees to

kelvin is the basic unit for measuring temperature in
the international system (S) it denotes the absolute
temperature scale where by 0k or absolute zero
define as the temperature when molecules will be
have the lowest energy.

Note: to convert degrees to K use this formula!

K= degrees + 273.15
GAY LUSSAC’S LAW

The reason who is credited with

the determination of the
temperature pressure relationship
in gases at constant volume is
Joseph louise Gay lussac.he
deduced that the pressure of the
gas is directly proportional to its
temperature of gases increase its
pressure also increase or vise
versa hence we can state it as. at
constant volume,the pressure of a
fixed mass of Gas directly
proportional to the absolute
temperature.
