DHL Express is a division of the German logistics company Deutsche Post

DHL providing international express mail services. DHL is a world market


leader in sea and air mail.

Global Diversity Practice worked with DHL to ensure their global code of
ethics was translated into tangible training courses focusing on Diversity
& Inclusion as an enabler. GDP coached and worked alongside the head of
HR to develop a targeted learning solution for the company, developed
the learning package as well as secure the Exec team to engage with our
contract.

Diversity importance:
The Goal of Diversity Training

The goal of diversity training is to make employees understand that even


if there are differences amongst the team members that they are working
with, a little adjustment in one’s attitude will make for an extraordinary
team. To make them not only tolerant of the differences that they see
around them, but to value those differences as a part of successful teams.

. It deals with making employees aware of the importance of diversity in


business. It also makes employees aware of their prejudices and cultural
assumptions about others. The tools used help in improving employees’
interpretation of cross-cultural differences.

Bring ones full self to work.

How?

Perhaps celebrating festivals of all the different cultures is one way of


creating awareness and acceptance. 

Some companies even create short courses or slideshows for employees


who are travelling to other countries. These trainings sensitize the
employees to the culture of the country they are visiting, and gives them
an idea of how the people’s attitude and behavioral styles are, the dos
and don’ts about culture and demeanor to be followed in that country,
and so on. 

Women in workplace:

Not considering women for the project just because it involved late
working is not acceptable. There are many women who work night shifts
and work very well in high-pressure projects. By not choosing woman,
those team leaders are likely not selecting the best talent available.

The Diversity Council, an internal committee chaired by the Board


Member for Human Resources that includes executives from the central
functions and the divisions, advises on diversity management strategy. It
convened three times in the reporting year and placed particular focus on
the diversity within our management teams. Items on the agenda
included processes for increasing the number of women in management
as well as the diversity of nationalities in management positions. Diversity
Council members also function as advocates for diversity within their
respective divisions. In addition to the Diversity Council, the company also
has diversity management experts in place at the regional and country
levels as well as at headquarters.
