Community Language Learning

Teachers become "counselors" in the Community Language Learning Method for SLA.
Vocabulary is learned in a context with guidance from the teacher-counselor. Corrections are
implemented immediately within a supportive class community.
Originally, students were seated in a circle to communicate with others under the guidance of the
teacher.

Total Physical Response

Based on the natural acquisition of first language learning, physical movement and active
listening mirrors behaviors of babies as they learn to communicate. The Total Physical Response
consisted mainly of command statements followed by students' physical responses.  For example,
the teacher may ask a student to stand up and walk to the door to line up for recess. In addition,
questions and oral responses and follow up questions within a comfortable setting. Typical early
learning classrooms continue to adopt TPR for learning L1 and SLA. 

And I think I choose Community language learning [ CLL ] methods


Because :

1. Theory : Also known as ‘ Counseling – learning ’ . It’s a good method to practice


speaking and listening. Teacher’s and students’ role : [ Teacher = Counselor / Students = Client ].
Relationship between teacher and students : [ dependency  independency ]

2.  Native language are permitted among students. Translation will be provided by the
teacher. Specially created for adult learner who might fear to appear foolish. Students apply the
target language independently when they feel confident enough to do so. Students are encouraged to
express how they feel about the learning process .

3.  Students are allow to express how they feel about the activities Teacher indicates
understanding / empathy

4.  Group work Tasks like discussion of a topic , given Students work in a small groups to
complete the task and Present it to the rest of the class..
5. Works well with lower levels students who are struggling in spoken English . Lower
students’ anxiety and overcome threatening affective filter. It creates a warm , sympathetic and
trusting relationship between teacher and learners. Counselor allow the learners to determine type of
conversation. Train students to become independent.
