Dear Students,
To be successful in our endeavours is a dream for all of us. listed below are a few tips that can help you to come out in flying colors.
1. JOT DOWN NOTES EFFECTIVELY
Your notes will help you remember and give you an idea as to what will be covered in the exam. By going through your notes you will remember the important
concepts stressed by your teacher and you can prepare well for your exams. Taking notes will help you concentrate in the class.
Pre-class
Preview the relevant chapter in your textbook.
Look for hints from your teacher that help you select and organize main ideas.
Compare your notes to notes from text to get the complete picture.
Go through your notes regularly and test yourself to see how much you can recall.
2. ACTIVE READING.
It’s very important to know an active reading technique that will enable you to learn and remember what you read.
Survey: Before you start studying, take a few minutes to scan the main features of the text i.e. title, headings, introduction, summary,
pictures/graphs, margin notes, etc. This will give you an idea of what the chapter is all about and what the big, important ideas are.
Question: A better way to study faster and remember better is to turn the heading of the section into a question and try to answer it. i.e. add a
question tag before heading like “What is….?”
Read: Read the section clearly to answer your question.
Recall: Summarize the key points (out loud is best) in your own words, once you are done with reading the section. You can then note down few key
points to review it later. Now go to the next section and repeat the above mentions procedure.
Review: Once you are done with the reading, do a quick review by looking over the main ideas you have just read and see how they fit together. The
next step is to test yourself by recalling (out loud) the points. Do this reviewing repeatedly.
3. WRITE YOUR ASSIGNMENTS EFFECTIVELY.
Assignments are an important part of your studies. Your teachers assign them so that they can see how well you have understood the subject and how effectively
you can discuss the pertinent ideas. Your goal is to use your papers to convince your teacher that you have good knowledge in the subject.
Prepare
Make sure you have understood what the assignment is all about.
If there is no choice and if you didn’t like the topic, then discuss with your teacher if you can approach the topic from an angle that appeals to you.
Start your research early: schedule your time so that you have enough time for researching, composing, and revising.
Compose
Your paper should be planned well. First select the main ideas and supporting ideas relevant to the paper. Focus on your ideas and make a rough draft quickly.
Refer to books, journals and websites for a better idea of the topic.
Revise
Make sure your ideas are clear and well organized.
To check if your ideas are clear, ask your friends or family members or someone else to read and correct it according to the feedback received.
Finally, proofread your text for errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation and so forth.
4. PLANNING FOR GREAT ORAL PRESENTATIONS
Generally most people feel anxious about making oral presentations. With a little practice and a few strategies you can gain the confidence you need to make a
great presentation.
Before
List down few important points and use them as prompts.
Your introduction should be prepared in such a way that you capture audience’s attention.
Practice your presentation by standing in front of the mirror or before your friends so that you don’t feel nervous on the day of your presentations.
While practicing use a timer so that you keep within the time limit.
Don’t read or memorize the content for speech. Instead try to understand the content so that you don’t forget anything during your speech.
During
Overcome nervousness with the following tips Convince yourself that you are not nervous about facing the crowd.
Relax yourself before you begin to take a few deep breaths.
Try to establish eye contact with a friend or by just looking over the heads of those in the last row.
Brief your audience about what your topic is all about before your start your detailed speech.
If you couldn't answer a question, don't bluff, instead tell the audience that you will find out and let them know.
The handouts must be distributed only after your speech and not before, unless you want your audience to use it as references.
5) USE SMART TEST-TAKING STRATEGIES
Exam is a very stressful situation to handle for many of us. This is where you're being evaluated and have to perform under a time limit. The key skill to manage
the stress and perform well is to be a smart test-taker.
Keep revising until the night before the test. Every week spend some time to revise your class notes and readings. Try to connect the important ideas
into themes or "a big picture" and test yourself by trying to answer the questions.
Take a mock exam. Prepare mock tests by yourself, which you can easily get from different sources (Sample papers, downloads from Internet).
Giving mock tests builds confidence and strengthen problem solving skills.
Plan your timing well on the exam. Before starting your exam, take a glance of all the questions quickly. Make a rough column by jotting down each
question key words, ideas, formulas, etc. Also, mark the questions that seem to be easiest for you. Make a time plan by allocating the same percentage of time to
all the questions of a particular section. Then, start with the easiest questions to build your confidence, and respect your time plan throughout to make sure that
you have time to attempt every question.
6) MANAGE YOUR STUDY TIME
As a student your schedule is likely to be a hectic one. Besides attending classes, doing homework and studying for tests and exams, you might also be busy with
other hobby classes and attending tuitions. You need to manage your time very efficiently if you are to keep up with your studies and finish your assignments on
time.
Long Range View
Take a long range view of the exams so that you have a general idea of everything.
Set up a calendar and list out important due dates: assignments, tests, exams and so on.
Week By Week
List out everything that you need to do for each subject and include time for study, review, assignments and tests.
Establish your priorities and re-work the time you need for each activity.
Plan for the exams and assignments well ahead of time, so that you do not rush up learning and doing things in the last minute.
Deal with situations as they arise; don't let them drag on.
Make sure that your academics does not get disturbed in any way.

WaterFall Model
The waterfall model is a popular version of the systems development life cycle model for
software engineering. Often considered the classic approach to the systems development
life cycle, the waterfall model describes a development method that is linear and
sequential.
Incremental Model
The incremental approach attempts to combine the waterfall sequence with some of the
advantages of prototyping. This approach is favored by many object-oriented
practitioners. It basically divides the overall project into a number of increments. Then it
applies the waterfall model to each increment. The system is put into production when
the first increment is delivered. As time passes additional increments are completed and
added to the working system. This approach is favored by many object-oriented
practitioners.
Extreme Programming Model
In extreme programming model, there is nothing like a clear phase boundary. A very
small requirement set is taken and analyzed. The development team does a brainstorm
session on that requirements and address at a design logic. Then immediately coding
starts.
