PROLOUGE

The governor of a state is a very interesting appointee of our political system. Seen as part of the “check
and balances” the Indian democracy is proud of the post is also often no more than a vestige colonial
past. The ancestry of the governor can be traced to section 93 of government of India act 1935. While
the role of the governor is set out in part 6 of the constitution and article 153 states clearly that there
will be a governor for states. This project is done to show how a governor was appointed during British
India and how governor is appointed in independent India. The project also contains the political and
constitutional framework of how governors are appointed and removed and also the judicial approach
regarding the position of governor and various judicial prouncements.
