As per sloka 26 Chapter 10 of Sarvartha Chintamani, a native born at a time when


there are four types of sandhis or conjunctions and the conjunction points are associated
with or aspected by malefics, without association or aspect of benefics, the native dies
soon after birth. It is yoga of balarishta.
The four types of sandhis are:
1. Nakshatra gandanta: Nakshatra gandanta or sandhi is the period of last 2
ghatis of Jyeshtha, Revati, Ashlesha nakshatras; 1st 2 ghatis of Ashwini, Moola, Makha
nakshatras respectively;
2. Tithi gandanta: Tithi gandanta or sandhi is the period of last one ghati of Tithi
5 and 6th tithi; and first one ghati of 10th and 11th tithis and of pratipada and poornima
th

tithis respectively.
3. Lagna gandanta: Lagna gandanta or sandhi is the period of last ½ ghati of
sign Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces and 1st ½ ghati of signs Aries, Leo and Sagittarius
respectively.
4. Diva-ratri sandhi (also known a Dina sandhi): It is the period of one ghati on
either side when day and night meet.
As the Birth in above-mentioned gandanta is evil, it requires shaanti pooja. As
per sloka 26 Chapter 10 of Sarvartha Chintamani, if a native born in any of the sandhis
lives somehow as a result of the merits of his parents, he becomes a protector of his
community and he becomes a king. It is a yoga of alpayu and if alpayu bhanga yoga
