Insights Learned from

Lasallian Mission of Human & Christian Education

For this week, the readings and lessons have always been close to me since 2011 when I
joined the Lasallian community. The lesson has reminded and refreshed me of the virtues and
guiding principles of being a Lasallian — one which should always be carried with honor,
dignity and pride. Someday, if I will be fortunate enough to become a lawyer, I am not just a
simple lawyer, but a Lasallian lawyer who keeps a heart for service of people and showing a
good reflection of Christian values and ideals of being a God-fearing individual. My reflections
for this lesson is short, but I focused on points that play vital role in shaping the students,
particularly College of Law students to be of service to our fellowmen in our mutual goals of
mobilizing the society and building the nation.

I have highly appreciated how Lasalle schools over the country and over the world has
worked its way to promote greatness and strengthen the faith of people across cultures and
communities. Accordingly, Lasallian education is a mission and ministry at the service of God,
the Church and society, and directed towards integral human and Christian development and

liberation. Lasallian education is imbued with a spirit of faith, which enables persons to interpret,
judge and evaluate realities in the light of the Gospel, to unite one’s actions and intentions with
God’s, and to rely on God’s providence in acting and discerning God’s will. Back in 2011, I have
had the chance already to read this journal and the foundational ideas about what it takes to be a
Lasallian has been obtained from this very good material. Essentially, I understood that the main
intent of the reading material is promoting education which is dynamic — one that evolves and
constantly changes to adapt to the ever-growing needs of the community. Personally, I think that
the one which summarizes the very essence of the journal is that we are guided by these
principles and together in faith and zeal in our vision of aspiring to create educational works of
quality that will be God’s revelation in our lives for the various individuals and groups who seek
to realize the fullness of their dignity and humanity through education.

From the major reference material in the lesson, I personnally appreciated how human
education and Christian education may be combined to achieve the ends of education. Through
this, the ultimate goal can be achieved, keeping in mind the essence and importance of an
excellent academic program — driven by mission and faith in God. St. John Baptist De La
Salle’s mission lives on today through the instrumentality of Lasallian schools. After all, the
Lasallian Mission is to give Human and Christian Education to the young especially the poor. It
is good to keep that in mind to value everything that we are doing now.
