IV. Implementation
A. Introduction
● “Today we are going to do some review of irregular past tense verbs.”
● “First, I want you to complete this short introduction slip.”
● Explain introduction slip
● Pass out introduction slip
● Allow time to complete
● Have one student from each side collect the papers
● Go over answers
B. Development
● I DO
○ “Now we are going to watch a video on irregular past tense verbs.”
○ Play video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVlyEhdYVDI)
○ “The video explains what we already know about regular past tense verbs
and irregular past tense verbs. For regular past tense verbs, you have to
add an -ed. For irregular past tense verbs, you have to change the
spelling.”
○ “Now we are going to play a game. It is called I have… Who has…”
○ “Everyone will get a card with I have… Who has…”
○ “I will be the start person and ask Who has…. All of the who has
questions ask about the past tense of a verb so you need to know what the
present and past tense of the verb is to be able to say I have…”
○ Pass out cards

○ “We are going to do an example round to make sure you all understand the
game.”
○ “I will start by saying who has the past tense of grow. Everyone will look
at their paper and whoever has “I have grew” on their paper will say “I
have grew” and then ask their who has question. Once you say your card,
you will sit down. Then we will keep on going until we reach the person
who has “THE END” on their paper.”
○ Thumbs up/thumbs down check on understanding of the game
● YOU DO
○ “Now we are ready to play! Stand up and stand behind your seat only.
Remember when you say your card, sit back down.”
○ Begin playing game
○ Have one student from each side collect game cards when game is done
○ If time have students do the irregular past tense verbs word search
■ “For this word search, you will need to look at the verb at the
bottom and write the past tense verb. Then you will go into the
word search and find the past tense verb.”
■ Past out word searches
■ Allow time to complete
■ Have one student from each side collect word searches
C. Closure
● “What is one thing you have learned about irregular past tense verbs over these
last few days?”
● Call on some students for responses
● “Do we still have any remaining questions about irregular past tense verbs?”
D. Accommodations / Differentiation
● For struggling ESL students, I will provide them with the correct answer during
the “I have… Who has… game.
● For ESL students, I will allow a longer wait time after asking questions.
E. Assessment/Evaluation plan
