1. What is Drama?
Drama is a story that performed by the actors on stage. They believed that
the drama’s origin is in the art of dance. It is intended to portray life of others
usually involving conflicts and emotion through action and dialogue. The
actors here need to be train well so that they can act or they can give justice
to the story or to the people they are portraying. They need to develop the
ability to take the role of other people, they need to know how it feels on how
to be in someone else’s shoes.
Drama promotes communication skills, teamwork, dialogue, negotiation,
socialization. In engaging to this activity those are the advantage or the
benefits you can get after knowing the proper things to do in doing a drama. It
also stimulates the imagination and creativity. The story here can be both
happened in real life or just the imagination of the writer.

2. Types of drama
 There are four types of drama; the comedy, tragedy, tragicomedy and
melodrama they are all have the plot, characters , music and dialogue. The
difference are:

a. Comedy
 It is a type of drama that is intended the audience to laugh. It is mostly has
a happy ending. That tradition came from the Ancient Greek theatre,
where comedy first emerged as a form of drama. “Comedy is a serious
business. A serious business with only one purpose — to make people
laugh.”

b. Tragedy
 The most common ideas in tragedy are murders, deaths, insanity and
pain. It is a play dealing with tragic events and having an unhappy ending
which is the downfall of the main character. Tragedy first appeared in the
theatre of Ancient Greece. Like comedy, it lived through Roman Empire,
Medieval times, Renaissance and other. Tragedy sometimes relates their
play on what is really happening in our society.

c. Tragicomedy
 It is a special type of drama which combines the elements of tragedy and
comedy. It means that the play may be sad but will have a happy ending.
Mostly the characters are exaggerated and sometimes there might be a
happy ending after a series of unfortunate events. Tragicomedy emerged
in the times of Roman Empire. Plautus, the roman dramatist was the first
to write a tragicomedy and use the term.

d. Melodrama
 It is a type of drama in which everything is hyperbolized. Themes in
melodramas are simple and without any unpredictable plot twist. The main
purpose of this is not to tell a story but to awaken feelings in the audience.
The stories here is mostly love stories with beautiful heroines, charming
heroes and scary villains. Originated much later than comedy, tragedy and
tragicomedy. It is first appeared in France at the end of 18 th century. It
reached Britain and became one of the most popular types of drama in the
19th century.
