Abstract

Economic development and people’s changing patterns of consumption and production led
to a drastic increase in plastic waste all over the world. Plastic waste disposal harms the
environment and poses threat to human health. Hence, there is great desire to reduce plastic
waste. Plastic is also the major pollutant in river Yamuna. In this report we look at how this
major pollutant reaches Yamuna and also various environmental damage it causes. Through
various research data and case studies, we have explained the present condition of Yamuna
and how it affects us and our environment. We further have tried to present some ways in
which we can educate people to fight against this necessary evil as well as ways in which we
as individual and as a society can help keep our rivers, not only Yamuna, clean but also
preserve these resources for our future generations.
