Religious music was played prior to the church services. A
building study program was instituted and necessary repairs
were made to the church roof and gas well. The 175"
anniversary of the church was celebrated during this time.
In 1975, Pastor Robert Free came to us from
Gettysburg Theological Seminary. During his pastorate,
major renovations took place. The sanctuary was remodeled
with new lights, pews and carpeting. A $40,000 addition
was made to the existing church basement which included
a kitchen area, two restrooms and a furnace room; and a
$20,000 addition was made to the church nave, allowing
for additional seating and creating two additional rooms and
arestroom. Much of the funding for this project was raised
through dinners and ice cream festivals, which also provided
a lot of good fellowship. In 1980, we dedicated the new
addition and remodeling of our church building. Our speaker
for the day was Dr. Kenneth May, Bishop of the Western
Pennsylvania-West Virginia Synod.
A new joint parish pictorial directory was compiled.
Many members of our church volunteered their time and
talents in putting new roofs on cabins at Camp Lutherlyn.
Summer outdoor worship services were held, both in the
grove and at Crooked Creek State Park.
Following Pastor Free’s resignation, Pastor James
Neal was called to serve in 1984. During the time Pastor
Neal was with us, we saw the transition from the Service
Book and Hymnal to the Lutheran Book of Worship. We
took on the challenge of learning many new hymns and the
various liturgical settings for worship. With a renewed
