emphasis on the Sacrament of Holy Communion,
Communion is now offered on the first Sunday of each
month, as well as all festivals and all Sundays in Lent and
Advent. As Communion is now celebrated with greater
frequency, a new communion cup and flagon came into use.
They were dedicated in November, 1986 and given in
memory of Lester Brown by his family.
1986 was also the year we burned the mortgage taken
out several years before for the addition and remodeling of
the church. We accepted a commitment to help support
Barry and Alice Lang, missionaries in Liberia, A nursery
during the worship service was begun to encourage
attendance at worship by parents with small children. The
Lutheran Church in America merged with the American
Lutheran Church and the Evangelical Association of
Lutheran Churches to form the Evangelical Lutheran Church
in America. In time for our 200 anniversary, an access
ramp for the handicapped and a new entrance porch and
steps were completed. In September, 1986 we launched
our 200" anniversary year-long celebration with a 24 hour
prayer vigil, a reenactment of a 1786 church service and
dinner, and the release of 200 message-bearing balloons.
Each month during the year, we had a special event to
commemorate our 200 years.
In 1987 new carpeting was installed in the church
and upstairs Sunday School room. Additional ground was
purchased for an extension to the church cemetery.
Candelabras for the pews were made and donated by Allen
Adams. An illumined cross was installed on the bell tower
and on August 23" the cross, the cornerstone of the new
