Plane of a Brazilian team crashes in Colombia

Three years have passed since the air tragedy that invaded Chapecoense, where
71 people died. The plane of the Bolivian company LaMia, which was transporting
the members of the team, technical staff and journalists related to the club,
crashed in the early morning of November 28, 2016 in the so-called Cerro Gordo,
near Antioquia, Colombia.
The Colombian Civil Aeronautics announced that six people had survived: three
soccer players, two members of the technical team and a journalist who traveled
with them. The flight was operated by a small airline, LaMia, and members of the
Chapecoense do Brasil flew on it, according to Civil Aeronautics. The team was
traveling from Bolivia to play the Copa Sudamericana final against Atlético
Nacional de Medellín, but the plane crashed around 22:00 on Monday.
According to some Colombian media, at least one of the survivors was a member
of the soccer team and had been transferred to a nearby hospital, where he was
conscious and could speak.
The conclusions of the investigation into the tragedy that occurred on November 28
were announced by the Bolivian Minister of Public Works and Transportation,
Milton Claros, who reported that the Bolivian state will guarantee the compensation
of $ 153,000 to the relatives of each deceased person.
"Our investigation establishes the direct responsibility of the LaMia company and
the pilot," says Bolivian Minister Milton Claros
That is the main conclusion of the investigation carried out by that ministry on the
responsibility of the pilot Miguel Quiroga who died in the accident and of the airline,
a small charter company, that started from Santa Cruz, Bolivia, and fell near the
airport in Medellin Colombia. Most of the Brazilian soccer team Chapecoense
traveled in the apparatus. There were six survivors.
Also, according to the investigation, a breach of duties of the director of the
General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics, César Varela, and of Roger Gandarillas,
general director of the Administration of Airports and Auxiliary Services to Air
Navigation, was determined, so the Ministry Public Works will make a criminal
complaint.
In conclusion, the accident represents a tragic end to one of the best success
stories in Brazilian soccer. In a league plagued by scandals, mismanagement and
frustration at the defeat of the Brazilian National Team against Germany in the
2014 World Cup, Chapecoense had managed to achieve success, both in the field
and in its economic stability. His pass to the final of the Copa Sudamericana made
him the first Brazilian team that could get that trophy since 2013.
