Concert performances will hold in Cracow and Grand Concert at Bochnia Salt Mine. International Choral Festival We Are Singing Cracow 12-14 September, 2020 Cracow is one of the best festival cities in Central Europe. From theater, art, literature, music, dance and food, it provides its citizens and visitors with unique cultural experiences and spectacular entertainment, Though not the capital, Cracow is the cultural and intellectual center of the country —and deservedly Poland's most popular destination The deposit of rock salt in Wieliczka and Bochnia has been mined since the a3th century. This major industrial undertaking has royal status and is the oldest of its type in Europe. The site is a serial property consisting of Wieliczka and Bochnia salt mines and Wieliczka Saltworks Castle. The Wieliczka and Bochnia Royal Salt Mines illustrate the historic stages of the development of mining techniques in Europe from the 23th to the 2oth centuries: both mines have hundreds of kilometers of galleries with works of art, underground chapels and statues sculpted in the salt, making a fascinating pilgrimage into the past. On June 23, 2033 r. the Bochnia Salt Mine was entered onto the UNESCO World Cultural And Natural Heritage List. This is the first chance to meet all singers and to get the first contacts. CHURCH CONCERT The choirs will be able to sing at church in Cracow. CONCERT AT HALL For the choirs with no sacral repertoire will be arranged an concert in the Hall (Cracow) Sunday, 13 SERTEMBER 2020 GRAND FINAL CONCERT Grand Concert with all participating choirs will take place at the Bochnia Salt Mine. Before the Concert all participants will have the chance to admire numerous salt chambers with its amazing sculptures made by ordinary minors. All choirs receives a memento of the festival, and finally the joint sing is performed. Farewell dinner will be organized after the final concert. The cost per day per person varies. 4 | www.WeAreSinging.orgVENUES DATES THE SALT MINE BOCHNIA The Salt Mine Bochnia is the oldest salt mine in Poland The beginnings of the Bochnia mine as an excavating plant date back to 1248. Being a royal facility, the mine generated a huge income.The mine was first accorded Pri legislative protection in 1981, and it has subsequently been recognised as a national monument. In 2023 it became part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site when the designation of the mine at Wieliczka was extended The mines has 4.5 km. of galleries at 26 levels between 330 m and 468 m. below the surface. The August Passage, almost 3 km. long, driven between 2723 and 1743 under the management of Jan Gottfried Borlach, provides access for visitors, and links a succession of chambers created by the extraction of salt. Some large wooden machines have been preserved, together with railways that were used for underground transport. The largest chamber, 225 m. long and 14.4 m. RECITAL HALL OF THE ACADEMY OF MUSIC IN CRACOW The Academy of Music in Cracow is one of the oldest music higher education units in Poland and in Europe. It was founded asa Conservatory by the Music Society in Cracow - an organization that came into being owing to the efforts of Duchess Marcelina Czartoryska and Wladystaw Zelenski in February 1888. The building is located on the historic Old Town of Cracow Newly restored Recital Hall was reopened in 1956.
