HUL goes online with Humarashop.com

Naval Jain, owner of Delhi-based general store chain Red Kiwi, has been wary of
the rising competition from online grocery stores. The 33-year-old second-
generation businessman is keenly aware of the power of e-commerce. But he
lacked the money and technical expertise to sell his wares online. That changed
when Jain was approached by PepperTap, a start-up that connects kirana stores to
customers though a mobile app. For a small commission, the Delhi-based company
offered to not just feature Red Kiwi on its platform but also handle deliveries for
online orders. Jain agreed. In the two months since, his sales have increased 15 per
cent. PepperTap is not alone in linking grocers with customers; others such as
Zopnow and Jiffstore in Bengaluru, and Timesaverz and Humarashop in Mumbai,
are also doing just that. In Mumbai, Shailesh Patel, owner of the Home Choice
Super Market, has tied up with Humarashop.com, a start-up venture from HUL, to
not just provide faster delivery to customers but also expand it to a 15-km radius.
‘Earlier, we only delivered in a 2-km range,’ says Patel. It’s been a week and he is
already getting five orders online every day. Devesh Patel, owner of New Grand
store in Andheri, also plans to get on board with Humarashop.
