Observation Field Assignment

Name of Observation Tool: Rating Scale

Domain: Social/Emotional

Include picture of Observation Notes:

Analysis of Observation: Thoughts about observation/What did you learn? I think that Ahaan
performs a lot of these actions on many occasions. He is nearly two years old, so he
acts on impulse a lot of the time instead of thinking before doing. And usually he
performs actions such as sharing readily with other children when a teacher asks
him to do so, it’s very rare that he do it on his own. But he is very good at
communicating his needs to his teacher or he fulfills his own needs. He is able to
get his water cup from his cubby by himself. In new situations with new people he
gets very upset and nervous, he becomes clingy towards his mother and current
teacher. He is very bright for his age and I’m impressed with a lot that he knows,
but because he’s so young he has a lot to learn socially and emotionally.

Planning Ideas for Lesson Plan: Ideas for your lesson plan/How are you going to use what you
learned from this observation in your project lesson plan? Because Ahaan is almost two, he
doesn’t have a very long attention span and due to that I would need to find
activities that help him be able to interact with other kids in a positive way. An
activity where they’re able to “purposely” share with other, such as passing a ball
or using a “spinner toy” (see picture) where each child is given a turn to put a
spinning piece on the toy. These activities encourage sharing and patience, two
things toddlers are working on.

*The toy in the picture is the exact spinner toy that is in the classroom*
