Course Objectives:
To impart knowledge on image processing and machine vision analysis and applications.

Pre-requisites:
Basic Concepts of Sensors and Transducers, mathematics, control systems.

Module I: INTRODUCTION
Descriptors/Topics: Human vision – Machine vision and computer vision – benefits of machine vision; Block

Module II: IMAGE ACQUISITION


Descriptors/Topics :Scene constraints-lighting sources, types and setups – Lighting parameters; working

principle – Analog and Digital Cameras.; General problem in capturing the image; Selection of camera – optics
in camera.
Module III: IMAGE PROCESSING
Descriptors/Topics : Image formation – filtering technique – Pixel processing; Processing of binary and grey 25
scale images; Operators – types – segmentation – edge detection-Morphology.

Module IV:IMAGE ANALYSIS


Descriptors/Topics : Feature extraction-decision making – pattern recognition; Colour image 15
processing -- 3D image processing.
Module V: MACHINE VISION APPLICATION
Descriptors/Topics : Machine vision applications in manufacturing, electronics, printing, pharmaceutical

textile and Bio medical field; Case studies.
Student Learning Outcomes:

· Demonstrate competency applying principles to calculate values and solve problems related to machine vision.
· Identify practical application of machine vision in the industries and robots.
Demonstrate competency in the practical application of machine vision.
· Design circuit diagrams for control action robots
· Understand the working principles of camera and its application.
Apply principles to process the image and use it.

Pedagogy for Course Delivery:


The course pedagogy will include lectures, numerical practice, case studies, seminars and presentations. It also includes discussion on
real life problems and demonstrations of machine vision application on manufacturing machines and robots.

List of Experiments:

1. Write a program to Read a image and convert it into B/W.


2. Write a program to identify the shape of an object from its image.
3. Write a program to recognize the color of the ball.
4. Write a program to convert the image into binary image.
5. Write a program to differentiate two different objects.
6. Write a program to recognize the face of a human being.
7. Write a program to process the image using ANN.
8. Write a program to recognize an object and feed that program into microcontroller and show the output.
9. Make a robot with the camera attached and use the image captured by camera for robot navigation.
