Helicoflex HN 208 A, a metal based gasket from Carbone Lorraine. Double jacketed gasket, type 100 from Klinger Metal Jacketed Gaskets On the HN 208 A and the double jacketed gasket, tightness tests were done at temperatures up to 400°C, On Gogeseal XG053 weight loss measurements were done at 400 and 500°C. AlL3 gasket types were tightness tested at 700°C. The results of the tests show that double jacketed gasket seem to be the best, and at the moment, may be the only asbestos free gasket suitable for high temperature applications up to 700°C Gogeseal XGOS3 with 20 weight% nitrile rubber is not recommended in the temperature range 400 to 700°C. This report describes tests done with 3 different gasket types. Test descriptions Gaskets tested: 1.) Gogeseal XG053 from GOGEBL. Refering to the report mentioned above, Hydro Agri Sluiskil uses the gasket "Klinger Picoff, Milam PSS 130" for NOx tailgas system. This gasket consists of mica material on perforated (tanged) stainless steel. ‘The Materials Engineering, Research Centre, Porsgrunn has received an enquiry from Mr. M, Favaits, (who represents GOGEBI mica products) if we could test the Gogeseal mica based gasket, XGO53. M. Favaits had visited Sluiskil and we wei told by Favaits that Sluiskil was willing to do an industrial test with the XGO53 as there were some sealability problems with the Klinger Picoff gasket. Lab. tests described below have thus been performed with XGO53 mica gaskets. 2.) Helicoflex gasket, type HN 208 A. ‘This gasket seals with a metal to metal contact. The pressure on the gasket sealing area and the creep/relaxation depends on the metal mechanical behaviour. As higher the temperature goes, the more relaxation the metal will have and the compression force (stress) on the seal will decrease. The metal alloy in the tested HN 208 A was stainless steel 304 L. Appendix 1 shows drawings which explain the principle of HN 208 A and other Helicoflex seals. 3.) Double jacketed gasket, type 100 from Mac Michael Gaskets Ltd, UK (now Klinger Metal Jacketed Gaskets). ‘This jacketed gasket (see Appendix 2) has graphite as filler and is from the same delivery as tested in earlier report (in Norwegian) "doc.no. 93Q_E13.DOC, date 1993-06-11. The main conclusion of this report was that after 1 week test at 700°C the metal jacketed gasket with graphite filler was more stabel/unaffected than the same gasket type with ceramic and asbestos filler material. The jacketed material is SS 316. Test procedures and results The HN 208 A gasket and the double jacketed gasket were tested according to tightness. The gaskets were tested in a test equipment shown in Appendix 3. Test temperatures were 23, 100, 200, 300, 400°C and internal nitrogen gas pressures were 15, 20, 30 and 40 bar. The load on the gaskets were at each step increased to tightness (“) 9 CEFILAC ® EIANCHIEME : | ARESILIENT METAL “0” RING. __ BEFORE TIGHTENING __AFTER TIGHTENING HN HN HL HELICODUR HL HEUCODUR HN HN HN.
