Philosophy of Education

Jordan Fainor

For students to be able to grow and form into strong intelligent young adults, they need

individuals around them to support their learning and model for them. The purpose of

education is to expand a child’s urge to learn and to allow them to have the environment where

they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. I want to create an inviting

environment for students in which they can learn while expressing themselves as well as

accepting others. The classroom is a place where students’ basic needs are met as well.

Students should feel valued, safe, and know they are able to trust the people around them.

According to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, once students’ basic physiological needs are met

they will be able to focus more fully on the learning that will develop them into a strong

individual.

One of the main reasons I want to teach is so I can motivate students to want to learn

new knowledge, as well as help students believe in themselves. My role as a teacher is to listen

to my students and their needs and base my lessons off of what is most beneficial for each

child. My teaching will be student- centered and I will teach a varying of instructional strategies

that fit each of my students while implementing them into my lesson planning. I want to teach

by actively engaging my students within their leaning and ask them critical thinking questions.

My mission is to make sure students feel safe and heard while expanding their

knowledge. I hope that student feel accepted in my classroom and have a desire to be there

every day. I want to teach students the differences between right and wrong through leading by

example. I believe my students should learn by doing and that is how I want to teach within my

classroom.
