BACKGROUND NOTE: Some important information can be taken from the three selections in
this lesson. These are important scientific facts that the students should know which was built
more than hundred years ago.

TASK 1. Guess what is being referred to in the following riddles.

I am made of rocks. 2. You come here to play. 3. You can see me but can’t touch
I am very dark inside. There are slides and swings. I can be white or gray,

CONCEPT NOTES:

Drawing Conclusions

One of the most important reading skill is drawing conclusions. When you draw
conclusions, you get infromation that is not directly stated in the selection you are reading. You
do this by using your background knowledge or what you already know to better understand
what you are reading.

Example: Shen’s mom takes her body temperature. She must stay at home on your bed all
day. She eats soup and take a medicine.

As a reader, you may conclude that Shen is sick.
