1. Upload W Limits Macro Concepts

What is the Upload W Limits Macro? This feature allows users to create custom interpretation
guidelines at a variety of levels (Equipment/SN, Jobsite, Customer). Examples include the ability to
create custom wear metal guidelines for engines at just one jobsite or establish guidelines for HYD
compartments for a specific customer.

Who has access to this macro? Both _DLR and _LAB roles have access to this function.

2. Where is this macro?

The “Upload W Limits” macro is an additional macro not found on the universal macro drop down list.
Additional macros are available by double clicking a blank area on the main screen

Drag the macro to the User Defined section

The macro should now be accessible via the drop down menu

3. How does this macro work?

Click Upload W Limits.

A dialog box will appear which will allow the user to select the level at which to apply the new
interpretation guidelines

A dialog box will appear asking the user if they would like an example file.

<Yes> will download the example file.

<No> will allow the user to upload a file that will create/update the wear limits.

If a user is ready to upload the new wear limits file, they would Click “No” when asked if they want an
example file. A dialog box would then appear allowing them to browse to a location to upload the file.

4. Upload File Information

Is there a specific file format? Yes, new guidelines must be uploaded in a specific file format. An
example of this file format can be downloaded by following the instructions described above.

The download file will appear similar to this depending on which level is selected. There are a variety of
options to apply the wear limits. The user would fill in as much or as little information as necessary to
apply the desired guidelines.

 Customer (At Customer Level) – Must Match the Name of the Customer Record (not the
Company Name or Description)

 Jobsite (At Jobsite Level) – Must match the Name of the Jobsite, not the Description

 Serial Number (At Equipment Level)

 SN Prefix – Allows a user to apply wear limits to all SN with the same prefix for at the selected
level.
 Model – Must match model as found on either the Model Manager or Equipment Manager
records.

 Compartment Model – Must match compartment model from Equipment record. All
compartment models must match
 Compartment SN Prefix

 Product Family – Available on Model table

 Application – Allows the user to apply limits for specific Industries assigned in the Equipment
Manager. Industry must be manually filled in by dealer users. It is not automatically populated.

 Compartment – Must match the Compartment Code (in Equipment Manager)/Compartment (in
Model Manager) not the Compartment Alias (in Equipment Manager)/Description (in Model
Manager)

 Analysis – The Name of one Component or a collection of Components. This can be found on the
sample analysis display. (See Appendix 1)

 Component – The individual tests listed under the Analysis heading. This can be found on and
the sample analysis display.
o Some analyses (examples include: Metals or IR) may have multiple components. Some
analyses (examples include V100, V40, W) may have single components.

 NAR Max Limit – Allows a user to set up a No Action Required (Green) upper limit (all values
below this level will not be flagged).
 MR Max Limit – Allows a user to set up a Monitor (Yellow) upper limit. This will also establish the
lower limit for Action Required as anything above the MR Max Limit will be flagged as AR.
 Range – Allows a user to set a value range for a given guideline. This value must have set
minimum and maximum number values and be in the format X-X (ex: 5-10). The system will not
calculate the range using a percentage factor or other variable.
 Fluid Hours – Allows a user to input a desired fluid hour.

5. Where are my uploaded wear limits?

Users may be familiar with the Edit Grand Children function available on the individual SN
Equipment records. This table is one location where the typical “Wear Tables” can be accessed after
creating a serial number based on an existing Cat Model that has wear tables available. Because this
new feature allows users to upload limits at 3 different levels, there are now three different
locations for wear tables.

 Customer - If the wear limit was uploaded at the Customer level, the wear limits can be
found in the customer record under <Options>

 Jobsite - If the wear limit was uploaded at the Jobsite level, the wear limits can be found in
the jobsite record under <Options>

Guide; LabWare, Inc.

 Equipment – If the wear limit was uploaded at the Equipment (Serial Number) level, the
wear limits will be found under the <Edit> -> Edit Grand Children

6. Are there existing business rules?

There are global, system-wide business rules that dealers should be aware of. These business rules have
been put in to help the S∙O∙S Dealer community standardize interpretation and provide easy access to
proprietary information. To minimize any confusion, dealers should maintain a record of any custom
wear limits that are implemented. Any updates to the Wear Limits by the dealer can be viewed at the
appropriate level (Customer, Jobsite, Equipment) via Options - > Display Wear Limit Audit

The Upload W Limits macro (user defined) has been designed to be the primary data flag. This means
that the system will first check for any user defined guidelines. If user defined guidelines are not
present, system guidelines will be applied.

Wear Tables – Caterpillar currently produces and updates wear tables based on global model
populations. These values can be viewed in S∙O∙S Services Manager model and equipment records if

present. This business rule will flag results for the Metals analysis if they exceed the NAR or the MC
values.

 V100 Business Rules – These rules have been implemented to assist interpreters in evaluation of
viscosity results. These rules have a 2 step process.
 Step 1 - Check the sample result against the Viscosity Table shown below. If the result
matches one of the Compartment Type and Fluid Weight combinations and is below the
minimum OR above the maximum, it should be coded yellow.

Compartment Type Fluid Weight V100 Minimum V100 Maximum

recent sample) : No action required =< +/- 2 cSt / Monitor Compartment > +/- 2
cSt / Action required >= +/- 3 cSt
