Philosophy of Education

“Teachers encourage minds to think, hands to create & hearts to love”

Education is everything. It makes you who you are and helps you become who

you want to be. We start learning the day we are born, and never stop. Education is not

just memorizing facts and completing math equations, it is developing ideas, exploring

interests and discovering the unknown. My philosophy of education is to create an

environment that focuses on student-centered learning and collaboration. I will create

an environment that celebrates the differences of each student and their learning styles.

My classroom will allow students to feel comfortable in exploring new ideas in different

ways, by promoting individual growth and supporting progress and encouraging

creative thinking skills.

I will ensure that my classroom has warm a and welcoming atmosphere and is a

judgement-free zone. Students who enter my classroom will feel safe and comfortable

to be who they are and express themselves. I will guide students in developing

responsibility, individuality and compassion for others. I will foster a classroom that

feels like home and students who treat and respect each other like family. I will make

sure to communicate with all students to ensure a healthy and happy learning

environment where they know how much I care about them. I will provide open
communication with families through email, phone calls, and any educational

communication apps allowed by my school district to give families access to any

information they made need or questions or concerns they may have and offer any

support they may need. I will vary instructional strategies to reach each student’s

learning style. Differentiation will be present in all learning to ensure are student’s

needs are supported. Students will sit in groups and collaborate in learning. As a

teacher, I will guide students in their academic learning according to the curriculum in

a way that is meaningful to students and allows them to make connections to the

material.

I am very passionate about art and creativity and will bring that into my

classroom with projects and STEAM activities that align with the curriculum and are

supported by learning standards. Creativity will be welcomed and encouraged in all

areas of learning because it is a very important aspect in learning and should not be

overlooked. Progressivism, started by John Dewey, is an important philosophy that

focuses on the whole child. I believe it is a very important philosophy to live by as a

teacher. I believe that having a progressive classroom will be beneficial for student

learning and allow them to connect more with content, and allow students to be curious

and to search for answers to their questions. My classroom will be based on student-

centered learning. Collaboration will be key in my classroom. All students will be

active participates in learning, participate in decision making, and monitor their own
learning. I will use methods such as, “turn and talk” small group centers, interactive

activities, and setting and achieving goals. Differentiated instruction will be included in

every lesson in various ways in order to address the students individual learning styles

and needs.

I will set high yet achievable expectations for all students and always offer

positive feedback. I will establish a routine that students will become familiar with. I

will offer visuals for students to refer to such as a daily schedule and learning goals. I

will foster critical thinking skills by using Bloom’s Taxonomy to measure

comprehension. I will challenge my students and teach them to challenge themselves.

My mind is and will always be open to new ideas and ways of learning. I plan to grow

with my students in my career and alter my instruction to fit each class and all students

as I learn. I believe the students will teach me as much, if not more, than I could ever

teach them.

My teaching styles is very similar to that of the facilitator style. In my experience,

I often ask my students questions and have make predictions. I believe that it builds

their problem-solving skills and promotes self-discovery. My students are always

participating in activity based learning and tactile engagment. I believe it is important

to have a behavior system that is based on positive feedback and awarding good

behavior. For example, I really believe the “fill my bucket” method promotes

responsibility and provides students with acknowledgement they need and deserve.
Education is a never-ending exploration of all things. It should be implemented

in such a way that teaches students about who they are and what they can become.

Students minds should be open to the exploration of new ideas as teachers foster their

learning. Education should be informative as well as enjoyable. After all, teachers who

love teaching, teach students to love learning.
