Standard #2: Written Competency Reflection

Establishing a strong relationship between the teacher and the family is the most important to
help child grow. I believe that relationship that a teacher has with the family is crucial. Also creating a
bond with the community around you can help the child grow as well.

How I would create a strong relationship with the family is I would meet with family. I would sit
down with them and treat them like any other adult. Sometime the teachers are the only other adults
that the parents get to talk to and some of those conversation are the best way to create a connection.
Something else that I feel is important is asking the parents what they want out of school. Making sure
that the parents and I are on the same page so that we can better help the child grow in the
environment. In order to keep in touch with the parents about what’s happening in the classroom I use
social media. When I meet with the parents, I would ask them what the best way is to get in contact
with them through email, text, or a phone call. With the use of Facebook, I can share pictures of the
children in the classroom and different events or activities that we do in the classroom.

Having a relationship with community around you important. The reason why it is important is
that one never knows when they need to rely on the community for help. In order to create a
relationship with the school around my immediate area I would possible offer a small discount to the
families that around my center. Also, I have would professionals from within my community to come
into talk to the children and allows the children to create a relationship with the professional that are in
their own community.

The importance in make these kinds of relationship not only benefits the child but me as a
teacher. Having a relationship with the parents allows me to help the child grow and help the families
with information about how their child doing in school. Creating the relationship with in the community
allows me to have professionals come in a talk with children and I can be a role model for the children
on how to approach and respect those professionals.
