Question 1
4.0 Mvar minimizes the real power line losses and 4.5 Mvar minimizes MVA power flow into
the feeder
Table 1. Illustrates the values of Real and Reactive Power as Qcap varies
Qcap Values
(Mvar) Real Power (MW) Reactive Power (Mvar)
0 0.42 0.84
0.5 0.4 0.801
1 0.383 0.766
1.5 0.369 0.738
2 0.357 0.714
2.5 0.348 0.696
3 0.341 0.682
3.5 0.337 0.675
4 0.336 0.672
4.5 0.337 0.675
5 0.341 0.682
5.5 0.348 0.696
6 0.357 0.714
6.5 0.369 0.738
7 0.383 0.766
7.5 0.4 0.801
8 0.42 0.84
8.5 0.442 0.885
9 0.467 0.934
9.5 0.495 0.99
10 0.525 1.05
Figure 1. shows a simple plot of the Real and reactive power as a result of varying Qcap
From figure 1, as Qcap varies from 0-10 Mvar, the real power line was minimized at Qcap = 4.0
Mvar and the MVA power flow into the feeder was minimized at Qcap = 4.5 Mvar
