AUC hosts YouthOut Arts and Design competition

The YouthOut arts and Design competition is taking place in The American University in

Cairo on the 30th of November, and is giving its winners fully funded summer scholarships

and internships abroad.

This is YouthOut’s second annual competition, and this year it is taking place in AUC’s

student lounge. The event Kicked off on the 15th of November, and ended on the 30th with

36 students from different universities taking part. The final two winners, Alia El-Sirgany and

Nada El Gazzar, received full summer scholarships at either EU business school or IED

Barcelona.

The event is centered around art, design, and fashion and this year they are emphasizing

sustainable fashion. The contestants’ work is judged by some of the biggest names in the

Egyptian fashion field, including Kojak, Temraza, and Jude Benhalim. And is sponsored by

Salem alta moda, L’Oréal, CairoScene, and Badya-palm hill’s creative center. The event’s

organizer, Nadia Gode, is a University advisor who aims to connect the youth with

scholarship and internship opportunities in order to help them develop in the creative field.
In an interview with Temraza, the fashion designer highlighted the importance of such

events saying that, “practice makes perfect, and this is a great opportunity for students to

showcase their work and get constructive feedback”, “I am also seeing a lot of great

potential which is exciting to see in young people”. A fellow AUCian, and a makeup artist

participating in the event, Zeina Abdelaziz also told us that despite not winning “the

experience was very beneficial, I got to talk to Jude Benhalim about business growth in the

fashion sector, and she was extremely helpful, never in a million years would I have

imagined having a one on one conversation with Jude Benhalim.”

Nadia Gode also expressed her future ambitions for YouthOut, “this is only the beginning,

and it is a very successful one, the number of participants has increased from last year, and

hopefully next year we will continue to grow both in numbers of students and scholarships”.

Nadia is also planning on creating other platforms which cater to students in other fields,

with the next event centered to around film and music.
