According to an article from PhilStar by Efren S.

Cruz (2019), he stated that the biggest

threat in the Philippines is the accelerating rise of sea levels. This will have an effect on almost
the whole population because most people live near the bodies of water. Some places in the
Philippines are low-lying area which means those places are most likely to experience flood or
sometimes high tide. Due to climate change that is happening in the present, the tidal rise has
worsened. The places that never experience major floods are now going through it.

Based on Efren S. Cruz (2019), “According to a UN world climate report, higher levels in
the bays will mean that typhoons will do more damage. The United Nations World Climate
Council says that sea level rise could disrupt crop growth and flood rice and corn fields which
could spread dengue fever through the standing water in those fields.”

The tidal rise can affect the livelihood of the people affected by it. The high tide floods
low-lying areas and makes it difficult to do their daily activities. It also damages agricultural
products, homes, and less income. As the temperature increases, the global sea level rises as
well. The Philippines is a 3rd world country which means that it is not yet completely developed.
We are struggling to keep up with other countries in rebuilding damaged places due to
phenomena like high tide. Climate change contributes to the worsening of tidal rise in the
Philippines

One of the factors is the groundwater that has been pumped underground that causes the
ground to sink. In addition to the causes, the drainage systems are clogged by the garbage that
people abandoned in the sewers; which leads to melting of glaciers that contributes to global
warming. He stated that since 2003, the provinces of Pampanga and Bulacan have sunk between
four and six centimetres per year along Manila Bay. By contrast, the UN reports that global
average sea level rise is around three millimeters per year.
