Cross-references For ait, sounding pines and gauge glasses, see Pt 5, Ch 18, 11 Balast system, For separation of lubricating cil tanks ftom fuel tanks, see PY 8, Ch 8, 4.7 Separation and protection of tanks. 7 Section 9 Hydraulic systems 9.1 General 9.1.1 The requirements of this Section are applicable to flammable oils employed under pressure in power transmission, conta, actuating and healing systems, and hydraulic media in systems which are providing essential services. 9.1.2 The arrangements for storage, cistibution and utilisation of hydraulic and Jammable oils emplayed in defined in PL 8, Ch 14, 9.5 General 9.1.1 are to comply with the requirements ofthis Section 9.2 System arrangements 92.1 Hydraulic fuids are to be suitable for the intended purpose under all operating sorvice conditions. 9.2.2 Materials usec! for all parts of hydraulic soals are to be compatible with the working flu at the appropriate working lemperalure and pressure, 2.8 Provision is to be made for hand operation of the systems in an emergency, unless an acceptable alternative is availabe, 9.2.4 Whore hydraulic securing arrangoments are applied, the systom is to be capable of being lockod in the closed postion so that in the event of hydraulic system falure the securing arrangements will emain locked, 9.2.9 Where pict operated non-return valves are fitted to hycraulc cylinders for locking purposes. the valves are to be ‘connected directly to the actuating cylnder(s without termediate pioas or hoses. 9.2.6 Hydraulic circuits for securing and locking of bow, inner, stern or shell doors ave to be arranged such that they are isolated ftom other hydraulic cuits when securing and locking devioes are in the closed position.
