RULES & REGULATIONS
Art. 1. SECTIONS
1.a. Four different competitive sections will be programmed in the Festival:
§ OFFICIAL SECTION - Feature Films: Competitive international selection.
§ OFFICIAL SECTION - Short Films:. Competitive international selection.
§ BANDE À PART: Competitive international selection.
§ CANARIAS CINEMA: It covers the latest canarian productions or films directed by
filmmakers born or settled in the Canary Islands, with two competitive sub-sections: Fea-
ture films and Short films.
1. b. Fiction and non-fiction films are equally accepted in all the competitive sections.
1.c. Feature films are considered to be those over 40 minutes length, and short films to be those
under 40 minutes length.
1.d. BANDE À PART is the “experimental” section of the festival. It is dedicated to films that
explore formal and concept issues in a systematic way. Although it is directed primarily to fea-
ture films, the possibility of integrating shorter works, on equal terms with the lengths, is admit-
ted.
Art. 2. SUBMISSIONS
The Festival will receive entry forms and films from December 2, 2019 to February 2, 2020.
2.a. Film submission will be made only through the online entry form available at the Festival’s
homepage.
2.b. The submitter can apply to a particular section or to multiple sections with only one appli-
cation.
2.c. This option will be indicative, not prescriptive. This means that the Festival reserves the right
to decide the most convenient section for each selectable title.
2.d. The Festival's Direction and its Selection Committee will decide the order and date of ex-
hibition of each film.
2.e. Once the registration of a film has been made, and if the title has submitted ¡ to one of the
two Official Sections of the Festival, it cannot be withdrawn, nor presented in Spain before its
screening in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Art. 3. OFFICIAL SECTIONS (features and short films)
3.a. The films must have been produced in the year immediately previous to or current of the
Festival.
3.b. The films must confirm the SPANISH PREMIERE: the feature and short films should NOT
have been previously presented in Spain; in festivals (competitive or non-competitive sections),
theatrical release, in commercial domestic format editions, or through television broadcasting
in Spanish territory.
3.c. The films will be screened in their original version with English and Spanish subtitles, except
when the language of the film is one of the above-mentioned languages. The submitted screen-
ing copies should include subtitles in one of both languages. The festival is committed to create
the electronic subtitling that suits each case (that is, in Spanish when the copy is subtitled in
English, or vice versa).
3.d. The copy sent to the Festival will be D.C.P. (Digital Cinema Package).
3.e. The Festival will keep the copies until the end of the festival to screen the award-winning
films on the last weekend of the Festival.

Art. 4. BANDE À PART
4.a. The films must have been produced in the year immediately previous to or current of the
Festival.
4.b. NO Premiere Status is required: the selected feature films and short films will be un-
published in Spain (theatrical release), having previously been able to participate in Spanish
festivals, whether in competitive or non-competitive sections.
4.c. The films will be screened in their original version with English and Spanish subtitles, except
when the language of the film is one of the above-mentioned languages. The submitted screen-
ing copies should include subtitles in one of both languages. The festival is committed to create
the electronic subtitling that suits each case (that is, in Spanish when the copy is subtitled in
English, or vice versa).
4.d. The copy sent to the Festival will be D.C.P. (Digital Cinema Package).
4.e. The Festival will keep the copies until the end of the festival to screen the award-winning
films on the last weekend of the Festival.
Art. 5. CANARIAS CINEMA
5.a. The films must have been produced in the year immediately previous to or current of the
Festival.
5.b. NO Premiere Status is required: the selected feature films and short films will be un-
published in Spain (theatrical release), having previously been able to participate in Spanish
festivals, whether in competitive or non-competitive sections.
5.c. Subtitling in English is not required, but in Spanish for films shot in another language.
5.d. For feature films: The copy sent to the Festival will be D.C.P. (Digital Cinema Package). For
short films will be also admitted high quality digital files.
5.e. The Festival will keep the copies until the end of the festival to screen the award-winning
films on the last weekend of the Festival.
Art. 6. OFFICIAL LOGO AND ADVERTISING
The participants must ensure that the official Festival logo is clearly visible on all advertising and
promotional measures for the participating films in our competitive sections - OFFICIAL SEC-
TION - Feature Films, OFFICIAL SECTION - Short Films, BANDE À PART and CANARIAS CIN-
EMA . The name and logo of the Festival should be included in the opening credits and in the
publicity material as the film would be released in Spain, both in theatres and/or commercial
DVD/BLUE RAY. (Only for the awarded films, the logo and name of the Festival should be in-
cluded in the opening credits and publicity material as the film would be internationally released
both in theatres and or on commercial DVD/BLUE RAY). This condition is to be applied in the
case of all of the awards.
Art. 7. OFFICIAL SECTIONS AWARDS (features and short films)
Art. 7.1. FEATURE FILMS OFFICIAL JURY AWARDS
A selected jury formed by five remarkable professionals in the film and culture world will give
the following prizes to feature films presented in the competitive OFFICIAL SECTION:
7.1.a. The GOLDEN LADY HARIMAGUADA for the best feature film, worth 20,000 euro (includ-
ing to this amount the taxation percentage which will be withold according to Spanish taxes
regulations. Please see TAXES PARAGRAPH [*]). This amount will be distributed in the following
manner:

§ 10,000 euro to the director. [*]
§ 10,000 euro [*] to the company distributing the film in Spain if this exist. In such case as
this were not so, this amount should be given to the company that acquires the rights to
distribute the film in Spain, less than two months from the time of the prize award. The
Spanish company will guarantee the film’s commercial distribution over the present year
of the award, via a budgeted production plan which should be completed together with
the bills corresponding to the copies made posterior to the award. In such case as the
film awarded the prize should not receive distribution in Spain within the time stipulated,
the Festival will withhold this part of the prize.
7.1.b. The SILVER LADY HARIMAGUADA for the second best feature film, worth 10,000 euro.
(Please see TAXES PARAGRAPH [*]). This amount will be distributed in the following manner:
§ 5,000 euro [*] to the director.
§ 5,000 euro [*] to the Spanish distributor if such exist. If this were not the case, this amount
will be given to the company that acquires the film rights (in less than two months subse-
quent to the award) to distribute the film in Spain, in accordance with the conditions spec-
ified in section (a.2).
7.1.c. BEST ACTRESS AWARD. Consists of a plaque or certificate.
7.1.d. BEST ACTOR AWARD . Consists of a plaque or certificate.
7.1.e. JURY'S SPECIAL MENTION (Optional). Consists of a plaque or certificate.
Art. 7.2. SHORT FILMS OFFICIAL JURY AWARDS
A selected jury formed by three remarkable professionals in the film and culture world will give
the following prizes to short films presented in the competitive OFFICIAL SECTION:
7.2.a. BEST SHORT FILM AWARD: 2,500 euros for the director of the short film. [*]
7.2.b. JURY'S SPECIAL MENTION (Optional). Consists of a plaque or certificate.
Art. 7.3. AUDIENCE’S AWARD
The AUDIENCE’S AWARD will be given by a special jury as representative of the general audi-
ence to one of the OFFICIAL SECTION best feature film. It will consist in 2,000 euros for the
director. [*]
Art. 8. BANDE À PART AWARD
A selected jury formed by three remarkable professionals in the film and culture world will give
the BANDE À PART AWARD to a feature or a short films presented in this competitive section.
The prize will consist in 5,000 euro for the director. [*]
Art. 9. CANARIAS CINEMA AWARDS
A Jury of three renowned celebrities will award two different prizes:
9.a RICHARD LEACOCK AWARD FOR THE BEST FEATURE FILM worth 3,500 euro to the direc-
tor. [*]
9.b. RICHARD LEACOCK AWARD FOR THE BEST SHORT FILM worth 2,000 euro to the direc-
tor. [*]

OTHER DETAILS REGARDING THE AWARDS
Ex aequo awards will NOT be permitted.
[*] TAXES PARAGRAPH : The money awards are subject to taxation in accordance with Spanish
law. In such case as these awards are made to foreigners and/or foreign companies, a tax de-
duction form, in English translation, will be given to the prizewinner where, if it is the case, the
double taxation, in Spain and in the original country of the prizewinner, will be specified if such
is the case, thereby allowing the declaration of the corresponding deduction in said country.
Art. 10. GUIDELINES FOR SELECTED FILMS
10.a. Once the Festival has confirmed that a film has been selected, the following procedure is
to be adopted:
§ The participants will send the required documentation for its press releases, official cata-
logue and website (synopsis, technical and artistic credits, bio-filmographies, pictures of
the director/s and film stills).
§ All promotional material for the selected films requested by the different Festival de-
partments must be sent promptly by their representatives.
§ The shipment of the screening copy will be coordinated by the sender with the Festi-
val’s print traffic coordinator.
§ The Film Festival Organisation must receive copy of the movie 10 days before the start-
ing day of the festival.
§ Attached to the letter of air freight of this delivery a value declaration should be made
for statistical purposes, specifying that the copy is only being ceded on a temporary ba-
sis.
§ Films coming from EU countries should incorporate the correspondent copy of the cus-
toms document.
§ Shipment costs of the participating films will be underwritten by the festival one way (ei-
ther inbound or outbound).
§ Once the the copy has been sent, the senders will communicate immediately to the Fes-
tival the date and all the shipment details.
§ Senders should indicate address and return date clearly to the print traffic department.
10.b. The insurance policy contracted by the Festival covers the risks of fire, loss, theft and
destruction of the copy for the time lapse between its arrival at the offices of the Festival and its
return to the address indicated by the person registering the film. The maximum period for
claims relating to any copy is three months as of the return date.
Art. 11. ACCEPTANCE OF THESE RULES & REGULATIONS
Participation in this Festival implies full compliance with all these Rules. The interpretation of the
same is the responsibility of the Festival Organisation. Providing any controversy, such will be
subject to the ruling of Spanish legislation.
