Choosing to become a teacher was never in my career path when I was younger.

The idea

to become a teacher came just short of two years ago thanks to my sister in law. I was in a job

with no real change of improvement or true good work and I had enough. Many of my family

members are teachers and hearing their troubled students’ success story just brighten up my day

often. During this time, I am not ashamed to admit I truly do not have much training into what

would help me become a teacher, but I accept any opportunity that presents itself to assist with

my process. The repetitive things the news say about teacher pay is one of the things I know

about the school system. I also understand that a lot of the pressure the teachers feel is due to

testing and achievement numbers they are supposed to show throughout the year. I’ve already

put my mind that this isn’t going to be a career full of rainbows and candy, but it is still

something I wish to pursue.

When I was in school, I was always thankful for the extra time some of my teachers took

to make sure I knew the given subjects. Their kindness truly went a long way for me because I

knew they were putting their heart and soul into us and I tried to make up for all my rude

classmates. A lot of teaches lose the thought or idea of being kind because not many students

truly appreciate that. To know and understand now the true importance of education is what has

me here today seeking to become a teacher. With all the harm are students have been through

with the amount of massive school shootings I see myself as a guardian for them. Not simply a

guardian for their lives but also for their minds. These kids go into school to learn and become

great adults, the world will do its own damage on them. My goal is to try and protect them as

much as I can.

As far as my personal style for teaching and what I know I get caught up with is more of

the involved teaching. I was never a fan of just listening to a lecture, you would honestly lose me
in 5 minutes. With the amount of student diversity and learning diversity I know I will have to

implement different types of lessons. The lessons will include hands on, worksheets, videos,

media and interactive games to reach out to all types of learning environments. Also, I seek to

implement an idea I got from an education video for students with autism that included a sensory

room. While I am unsure if I will be teaching kids with autism, I still think having places like a

quiet corner or an interactive corner can assist some of my students with their learning. The way

I will do my assessments I am still unsure. I still feel like my feet are not wet enough to

distinguish what route I want to take to best assist my students and myself.

I know for the first part of my career once I am done with my associates' program, I will

be able to work as a substitute teacher which I truly look forward to doing. As far as

employment goes and the more in-depth qualifications and licensing I need, I still need quite a

few of my education classes to know more in-depth. For the beginning part of my career these

few semesters I have focused a lot on the general classes I need rather than the education courses

I need to take. At this moment I know in order to have a semi decent pay a lot of my family is

suggesting I take the time to reach for a Master's degree. I know I would like to teach elementary

for now but many of family member say to test it out first, some of them could not do elementary

and are now in middle and high school. I feel like as my experience expands, I can be more

certain if I want to stay to teach elementary or change careers.
