Bhakta Gita

(Compiled from The

Bhagawad Gita)

Pradeep Apte
Dedicated to Devotees

INVOCATION

The leela of Hari(God) is immense, the leela of Prabhu(God) is inexhaustible.

You Alone became everything, and named it Samsara (World). (1)

As the parent, teacher and guru, you scold and chide.

As the son, servant and follower, you respect and honor. (2)

Sometimes as the disease, you appear as fever.

Sometimes as the doctor, your treat and give medicine. (3)

Sometimes enjoyment, pleasure, honor and praise, men-women to attend on.

Sometimes a mountain of sorrows, creating an outcry. (4)

Sometimes you become a saint, to bestow your grace on us beings.

The sorrow and crises of countless births, You dispel in moments. (5)

Sometimes for the benefit of bhaktas(devotees), You take on an human Avtar.

Creating strange and unique leelas, meditating on them we swim across. (6)

Creating countless farces, great are You O Lord.

To such a benevolent and merciful God, we bow millions of times. (7)

Bhakta Gita

1. The yogi is superior to ascetics(not devoid of desires), superior to men of learning

(Shastras) and also superior to ritualists – such is my opinion. Therefore Arjuna, do be a yogi.
(6/46)

2. Of all yogis, he who devoutly worships Me, with his mind focused on Me, is considered by
Me to be the most Superior Yogi or the most devout one. (6/47)

3. This Divine Illusion of Mine, consisting of the three gunas(modes of nature), is difficult to
overcome; however those who take refuge in Me, alone could penetrate it. (7/14)

4. In the very last of all births, which is, in this human form, when a man of wisdom(jnani)
takes refuge in Me, realizing that everything is God, such a great soul(Mahatma) is very rare
indeed. (7/19)

5. O Parhta(Arjuna), the yogi who perpetually thinks of Me and undividedly remains absorbed
in Me, to him I am easily attainable. (8/14)

6. That Supreme Purusha, O Partha, in whom all beings vest and by whom all this is pervaded,
is attainable only by His exclusive devotion. (8/22)

7. But O Arjuna, great souls (Mahatmas) who possess divine nature, knowing Me as the sole
and prime cause of creation; and as eternal, worship Me, constantly with an undivided mind.
(9/13)

8. Constantly chanting My Names and glories, striving firm in vow, prostrating before me,
they worship Me with devotion, ever steadfast. (9/14)

9. To those men, who worship Me alone, thinking of none but Me, who are ever devout, I
provide them gain and security (of the gained). (9/22)

10. Whoever offers Me with devotion, a leaf, a flower, a fruit, or even water, I accept these
devout offerings of a devotee, with love. (9/26)

11. O son of Kunti! Whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever you offer in sacrifice (yajna),
whatever you bestow as a gift, whatever you do way of penance, dedicate it all to Me. (9/27)

12. By dedicating all actions to Me, you will be free from the bondage of actions having good
or bad results; and freed from them and through your surrender, you shall attain Me. (9/28)
13. Fix your mind on Me, be devoted to Me, adore Me, prostrate to Me. Thus making yourself
steadfast in Me and entirely surrendering to Me, you will reach Me. (9/34)

undeluded amongst men, is purged of all sins. (10/3)

full of faith and devotion, continually worship Me viz. they take refuge in Me alone. (10/8)

16. With their minds fixed on Me,with their lives surrendered to Me, enlightening each other
about My excellences and greatness and ever speaking of Me, they always remain contended
and delighted in Me. (10/9)

17. Upon them, ever devout and worshipping Me always with love, I confer that yoga of
wisdom (equanimity), by which they attain Me. (10/10)

18. In order to bestow My grace upon them, I, dwelling in their Self, destroy their darkness,
born of ignorance, by the luminous lamp of wisdom. (10/11)

19. By unswerving devotion only can I be seen in this four-armed form and known in its
essence and even its merger, O scorcher of foes! (11/54)

and is free from malice towards all beings, reaches Me. (11/55)

21. Those who, fixing their mind on Me, worship Me ever steadfast and are endowed with
supreme faith, are the most perfect Yogis in my opinion. (12/2)

goal, meditating on Me, with single minded devotion. (12/6)

entirely, there is no doubt about it. (12/8)

25. If thou art unable to fix thy mind steadily on Me, then O winner of Wealth! Repeatedly try
to reach Me by the constant practice (Abhyasyoga) of Divine Name etc. having God as its aim.

and becomes eligible for attaining Brahma. (14/26)

Me, therefore I shall tell thee, what is for thee. (18/64)
