Dear Edison Staff,

During this time teachers are going through so much, but some may also be going
through what is called “teacher burnout”. Teacher burnout is an extreme form of stress that can
affect teachers regardless of the situation they are in. Teacher burnout is causing teachers to
leave their profession and usually results in anxiety and even depression. Teachers who deal with
challenging students are more likely to experience this. Although I am unaware of the teachers
that are going through this situation, I believe that we should find a way to get them through this
stressful process. First, we could start with not putting too much weight on the teacher’s
shoulders when it comes to low scores on tests or not blame the teacher for some student’s
academic failures. We should all know our limits and should also teach stress management to
teachers! There are so many teachers and students who have to adapt to distance learning. There
are teachers that are having no students joining their zoom calls and spend all day to create new
assignments and assessments, they all deserve some support. Please help me support our teachers
through this difficult time and to help them throughout the year to avoid teacher burnout!

Sincerely,
Lorylen Bucio
