Q1. Name the poet and the literary form in which

it is written ?
Ans. Name of the poet is Amir Khusrau. It is
written in Persian and Braj.

Q2. Explain the significance of the images used in

the excerpt i.e. candle lit / moon’s grace ?
Ans. Significance of candle lit over here is that as
the candle was lit he was also awake waiting for
his lover to come or send any news about him.
This is how the image of candle lit is used to show
his “no sleep in my eyes” telling that how he is still
waiting for his lover.

Q3. Discuss the prominent language features of

this poem ?
Ans. This poem is the only surviving Urdu ghazal by
the poet that is accessible to us. It contains both
Persian and Brajbhasha in alternate lines, it even
demonstrates poet’s versatility in multiple
languages and dialects.
He brings together two languages , one is Persian
and the other is the language of common people
i.e. Braj. But this unique feature of bilinguality
cannot easily be captured in translation.
It’s a love poem in Persian tradition.
