b) Given a sphere shape workpiece, illustrate and justify how it may be confined
in space through all six degrees of freedom.
c) Illustrate and discuss the basic principle to confined or controlled a workpiece
by a jig or fixture.
d) A rectangular plate 4 x 8 in. (as shown in Figure 1) is in full contact with the
base of a fixture. The hole in the workpiece has been machined to 1.500 in. at
the exact center of the plate. The plug diameter is 1.495.
i. Compare two plug designs if 4-in and 8-in side is lefted off the plug.
ii. If the 8-in side is lifted, compare the clearance in part which permit the use
of a 0.200-in. height plug.
