Reflection
Medical nutrition therapy 1 and 2 by far have been my favorite classes. These classes instill so
importance of our organs, and how to discern patients with malnutrition which is something that is
commonly missed by medical professionals. These classes were so dense, but have taught me so much
that will prepare me for my clinical rotations when I’m in my dietetic internship. Although my goal is
community nutrition, if I’m ever in a position to take a clinical job, then I would definitely see myself
Although we didn’t really perform too many activities in this class I did enjoy learning about the
drug and food interactions. I learned why certain medications needed to be consumed with or without
food, why some needed to completely avoid each other because of medication impedance, and why
certain drugs could cause nutrient deficiencies. Learning about the mechanisms of drugs is important to
understand especially since I’ll be doing clinical rotations where I’ll have patients on certain medications
where I’ll need to assist them by developing a meal plan specific to their needs.
Yumi taught this course in a manner where it was clear and concise, and she focused on relevant
material that we could relate to our dietetic exam. She also provided us with supplemental readings
about current trends/nutrition related articles that enhanced our learning of the material. She gives the
necessary tools for us to be successful, and she is the epitome of what a professor should be. She cares
deeply about her students, and it’s clear that she is very passionate, which made learning for me that
much easier.
