The equation porposed by Larson (1973) for the determination of K50, or the opening of

the quadratic grid through which 50% of the blasted material passes is:

Where B= Burden (m); S/B = Ratio Spacing/ Burden; CE = Specific charge (kg/m^3); c =
Rock constant. It is the equivalent of the poder factor of gellatin dynamite necessary to
fragment the rock, normally between 0.3 and 0.5 kg /m^3 ; s = Blastavility constant. This is
a factor that takes into account the heterogeneity and the discontinuities of the rock mass
( very jointed and fissured rock s =0.6, Jointed rock s=0,55. Normal rock with hair cracks s
= 0.5. Relatively homogeneous rock s= 0,45 Homogeneous rock s=0,4)

With the normographs of Figs 32.7 ; 32.8 ; and 32.9, apart from K50, the curves of the
theoretical size distribution of the blasted material can be estimated, from a given blast
design or by reversing the procedure, determining the design from the desired
fragmentation
