ULTRASOUND THERAPY

Ultrasound therapy is a treatment method that uses ultrasound technology or sound waves
to stimulate damaged tissue. Ultrasound therapy has many levels, depending on the frequency
and intensity of the sound used. This high level of diversity is very beneficial for therapeutic
devices because the therapist can adjust the intensity of therapy to suit the disease being
treated. But basically ultrasound therapy works by using sound waves which when
transmitted in certain parts of the body can increase the temperature of damaged body tissue.
For musculoskeletal treatment, ultrasound therapy works in three ways:
1.Accelerate the healing process by facilitating blood flow in the affected part of the
body.
2.Cure inflammation and edema (accumulation of fluid), so it can reduce pain.
3.Soften wound tissue
To benefit from this therapy, ultrasound must be emitted on the skin of damaged body
parts using a transducer or a device specifically designed for this therapy. When sound waves
have been emitted, the waves will be absorbed by the body's delicate tissues, such as
ligaments, tendons, and fascia.
Possible risk of ulitrasound therapy:
1.Burns due to ultrasound therapy
2.Bleeding due to mechanical therapy
3.Biological effects that are not too influential but cannot be predicted
However, because ultrasound therapy only uses sound waves as a major component in
treatment, this therapy does not have the risk of harm like other therapies such as the dangers
of radiation therapy. In addition, patients are not at risk of developing cancer, even though
ultrasound therapy is carried out many times and the number of sound waves applied to
patients increases.
To ensure patient safety, the risks and benefits of ultrasound therapy must be carefully
examined. Before undergoing ultrasound therapy, patients must compare the benefits that can
be obtained with the risks that can occur.
